Collaborative writing is an important part of using multimedia to teach literature.

Students can bounce ideas off each other in order to form a deeper understanding. Here is an example of some text taken from a blog Donovan set up called Sparks of a Revolution, a fictitious online blog that the Brotherhood from 1984 runs to keep members up-to-date. In this assignment, two students, Dan Kronske and Frank Nichols, are taking the roles of Brotherhood interviewer and Winston Smith, respectively

Mark Brotherhood (as written by Dan Kronske): You work for the Ministry of Truth. What exactly do you do? Winston Smith (as written by Frank Nichols): I alter historical artifacts in order to help the Party persuade the population that history happened the way the Part says it did. Even if it really didnt. I help the Party lie. Mark Brotherhood: And how do you fight the Party, even though you work for it? Winston Smith: I secretly see my girlfriend outside of the Ministry building. The thing is, were not allowed to see each other at all, its the law, but I hate the Party and I hate the law! The saying Freedom is Slavery is ridiculous! And letting the Party take away my freedoms simply because they want to control me DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER.
