Births

Ettie Kelly, Born January 26th, 1890
Gracie Kelly, Born July 27th, 1892
[Gracie is my natural paternal grandmother and my father told me she was adopted by the
Kelly family after the death of Ettie and when it was determined Sarah could have no
more children. Gracie was reputed to have come from Toronto – but little more than that
is known. She was very good with children. She loved to sit on a second floor landing
with all her children and the neighbour children sitting on the steps below. She would
read stories to them to entertain them. She died in childbirth, giving birth to my Uncle
Keith, who subsequently died in 1928 from mastoid. John Kelly blamed my Grandfather
Clarence for her death as he felt Clarence kept Gracie pregnant. My father blamed her
death on either a negligent or poorly trained medical doctor. Gracie is buried in St
Thomas Cemetery and my father arranged to have a stone put on her grave in September,
2002.]

[A handwriting change – perhaps this is Gracie Kelly’s writing. One possible scenario is
the bible was given to her by her father and my father obtained it after her death. There is
no oral history to support this, just my amateurish handwriting analysis.]

[There are numerous marginal notes in the bible. None appear to be family related. This
entry shows an apparent Greek word which appears to be related to the study of the
passage. Compare this writing with the three apparently Greek words found in
File0060.PDF. Note also the condition of the Bible’s binding.]
