CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background Research Scabies is a disease endemic in many communities, this disease can be about race and class in the world. The disease is often found in children and young adults, but can affect all ages. Equal incidence in men and women (Depkes RI, 2004). Scabies disease by the world body is currently regarded as a nuisance and a health destroyer can no longer be considered just a disease of the poor because the disease has spread a cosmopolitan disease that strikes all social levels (M. Wasitaatmadja, 2007). In a community, group or family affected by scabies will cause some of the things that can affect the comfort of activity in living a life. Patients always complain of itching, especially at night. Itching that occurs mainly on the sidelines of the fingers, under the armpits, waist, genitals, around the elbow, the areola (area around the nipple) and the front surface of the wrist, so that there will be a feeling of shame because in adolescence and adulthood onset of scabies is very also affect performance on an assessment of rural residential areas that are considered less kept clean (Dariansyah F, 2006). Indonesia is a developing country, where health care is inadequate in relation to the economic crisis that hit Indonesia since 1997. Major issue is still dominated by infectious disease is an infectious disease mostly based environment. Based on the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, the prevalence of scabies in communities across Indonesia in 1996 was 4.6% 12.95% and scabies ranks third of twelve skin disease. Is the province of West Java with the highest incidence of scabies in Indonesia (Depkes RI, 2004). The prevalence of scabies disease profile based health center Pondoksalam 2011 as many as 143 cases which is the ten highest in sub Pondoksalam disease.

According to a report in the Health Center Pondoksalam from January to October in 2012 found 184 cases, showing an increase of morbidity of scabies in the district Pondoksalam (Profil Kehatan Puskesmas Pondoksalam, 2011). Activities to improve health (promotion) and prevent disease (preventive) are two efforts to improve public health to disease (Depkes RI, 2000). The scope of this research is on health care workers Pondoksalam centers. Location of research ie Pondoksalam Health Center. When the study is during the month of November 6 to December 1, 2012.

1.2 Identification of Problems The data of Health Center in 2011, the disease scabies is one of the ten highest disease with the number 86 for the new cases, or about 3.6%. Upper respiratory infection is a disease although most in the sequence as many as 2660 new cases. In the year 2012 turned out to increase the number of scabies cases, data from the clinic in January to October found 184 cases, an increase compared to 2011. Therefore, based on the background of the problem also exists then took the title " The Health Worker Outlook to Preventive and Promotive Effort of Scabies Diseases in Pondoksalam Subdistrict, District of purwakarta 2012".

1.3 Purpose of Research 1.3.1 General Purpose The general objective of this research is to reduce morbidity disease scabies in the work area Pondoksalam Health Center, Pondoksalam Subdistrict, district of Purwakarta.

Special Purpose Special Purpose of this research is to improve preventive and promotive

efforts scabies disease in the working area of the District Health Center Pondoksalam Purwakarta.

1.4 Benefits of Research The study is expected to provide input to the health center on the Pondoksalam abouts: Provide information to the health center on issues Pondoksalam disease scabies. Material consideration in determining the exit that will take to solve the problem about the disease of scabies in the working area Pondoksalam Health Center.

1.5 Scope of Research In this study the authors limit the scope of research on health worker area Pondoksalam Health Center.
