STUDIES ON AESTHETICS AND PERFORMANCE HOME TEXTILES

CHARACTERISTICS OF

ABSTRACT

Home textile industry is one of leading sector in India that earns huge amount of foreign exchange. But nowadays the industry is facing wide range of problems. Important thing to be done to overcome this situation is to improve our product performance. Both aesthetic and performance property of a home furnishing product should be improved.

This project is to study the aesthetic property such as drape, crease recovery (Handle) and performance characters such as Fabric Strength and pilling effect. This is to be carried out at two different conditions. First one is carried out by applying normal finish and the next is by applying bio finish. Under these two conditions various tests are to be conducted such as and the results are summarized. By means of statistical analysis a final conclusion is arrived.

The objective of is work is to conclude that which type of finish improves both the aesthetic and performance characteristics of bed linen

METHODOLOGY SELECTION OF MATERIAL The material selected is pure cotton fabric. Fabric selected was woven fabric. COTTON The material selected for study was king of fibres- cotton. The main reason for selecting cotton is, for its comfort qualities and it is appropriate for home furnishing, industrial purposes and other uses. The important factor that is considered while selecting cotton for commercial, medicinal and hospitals are due to its properties like absorbency, ability to arrest micro-organism entry and its easy care properties.

ADVANTAGES OF USING COTTON Cotton is a natural cellulosic fibre, has smooth texture and pliable Widely used in textiles than any other fibre due to its comfort properties Natural convolutions help in arresting the micro-organisms. Good fibre strength and it increases when the fibre is in wet condition Tendency to blend and highly absorbent than other fibres.

CONSTRUCTION OF FABRIC The fabric selected for analysis is woven fabric. The warp count used is 80s and weft count used is 100s The reed used is 225 and the pick 168
