Family Welcome to the family, were glad that you have come to share your life with us, says a song from a school that welcomes new students. Let us define what a family is. The family is the building block of the society. It is usually comprised of one or two parents and their children. It comes from the Latin word familia, meaning household or servants of a household. People all around the world belong to families of some kind. We generally think of a family as a mother, a father, and their children living all together under one roof. This kind of family, called the nuclear family, is very common. Another kind of family is called the singleparent family one parent and her/his children. Only one parent is in charge to raise the children because divorce or death has split up a husband and a wife. An additional kind of family is called the extended family. It consists of more than two generations living together. This is common in the Philippines, wherein a married offspring, together with his own family, still lives with his parents. This practice is in contrast with the United States wherein children are commonly independent by the age of eighteen. In another kind of extended family, a man has more than one wife at the same time. Some people in Africa follow this habit, called polygamy. In other places, a woman may have more than one husband at the same time. This custom is called polyandry. Each member of the family has work to do, the children to study; the parents to provide the needs of the family. Parents raise and take care of their children until they grow up, can stand alone by themselves, and begin new families of their own. In western countries, it is a common practice for children to bring their parents to home for the aged facilities when they get old. In eastern countries like the Philippines, however, children make their parents live with them and provide for their needs. Love, understanding, respect, and cooperation help families deal with difficulties and still enjoy being a family. It is good to know that theres a family always there to be strong and to lean on.

Unforgettable Experience The day of our Grade Seven field trip was the greatest quest of my life. It happened on October 17, 2012 on a pleasant Wednesday. Together with our teachers, we rode on a bus to go to our destination. First up was the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). I was not that excited when we entered the building because I thought it would be boring. In the end, I was able to appreciate our stay there because I learned a lot of interesting things about Science. After the tour at DOST, we went to Laguna to go to the Gardenia Plant. We were given a tour so that we can appreciate how modern bread is produced using computer and automation. The best part was of course the free-tasting. Nothing beats eating a product straight from its main source. The feeling of enjoyment was slowly building up into excitement because our final destination was the Enchanted Kingdom. Ive been there with my family before but I was still full of anticipation. There were a lot of students from other schools but I was still able to get pleasure from our stay there. First, I rode the Jungle Log Jam, together with my friends. As we were falling from the top, I felt anxious, thinking that my heart would stop beating unexpectedly. Even after this, I was still not contented and rode the Space Shuttle. The deliberately slow upward thrust of the ride and the sudden drop from the top kept me holding my breath I was only able to break out right after the ride. It was one of the most exhilarating rides of my life. Actually it was the best experience I ever had. That would be one of my happiest moments together with my friends. Its such a wonderful turn of events for the reason that I didnt expect much about happiness. What I think about is that I would be experiencing some happenings but even though I had thought about boredom I gladly like the occurrences. If I were given a chance I would go back in time and have the pleasure of enjoying my time.

PSHS Supreme Student Government Leaders help shape every country in this world. They make sure that their domain is peaceful, orderly, and flourishing economically. Just like country a school needs leaders too. That is why the Supreme Studemt Government (SSG) was formed at Paraaque Science High School (PSHS). The officers of PSHS were elected because the students think that they are capable to lead the whole student body. The SSG is comprised of fourth year students and a batch representative from each grade and year. The president, John Joseph Ocbina, is responsible for steering his fellow officers in organizing events. He is assisted by his vice-president Jenrey de Leon, The secretary is Hanna Bianca Sasil. Mary Grace Zamora, the treasurer and Hannah Mae Vera Cruz, the auditor work together. Karl Isidore Ibardolaza is the public information officer (P.I.O.). These officers are helped by the four batch representatives frim fourth year to grade seven: Kristelle Faith Hael, Hillary Grace Verona, Vincent Joseph Dacanay and Angeli Sta. Ana Taso. It is said that to be a good leader, one must be a good follower. Thats why the SSG serves the populace by taking their needs into consideration. They were entrusted to be the voice of their fellow students, and relay their concerns to the administration. But they cannot do any of these things alone. We, students should also support our leaders advocacies. They call for our help and cooperation. We have to be united in one goal. Just like any citizen in a country, a student must contribute whatever he could to ensure growth and success.

Rural Life vs. Urban Life Which do you prefer: rural life or urban life? Let us describe rural life first. In this kind of life, agriculture is the most prominent idea thatll come to your mind. In urban life, technology is the first thing that youll think of. Both have similarities, each kind of life has people existing on it, there are jobs to do and theres transportation and communication too. There are also differences between them. There are many, one of those is the closeness to nature. Environmentally speaking, in rural life you have direct contact with nature while in urban life there is predominance of manmade environment. They differ in size of community, in rural its small and in urban its very big. The area of interaction system is narrower in rural, wider in scope in urban locations. Cohesiveness and unity in rural is stronger than urban. Common traits, similarity of experiences, usual aims and purposes, common customs and traditions are the basis of unity in village. Rural life results in comparatively less sense of belonging and unity. In rural, home conveniences, public utilities, educational recreational, religious, medical, communication and other facilities for living can be provided if supported by sufficient population base. Conveniences and facilities are provided due to greater density of population in urban. Both have their potentials to be chosen, if technology and fame is what you look for then go to urban places; if a peaceful and quiet life is what you want then go to rural places. The same goes for technology and agriculture together with their corresponding kind of life urban and rural, respectively, if you want gadgets go to urban locations, and if you want to learn about agricultural activities then go to rural places. Its your decision, choose wisely!

Education, Technology and Development Today, as we can see, education has been largely influenced by technology and development. Because of education, people were able to invent things that made work easier and faster. Education, technology, and development are interrelated. Without education, theres no technology and without technology there is no development. Its like a food chain, without the producer the consumers would be nothing. Nowadays, students use technology in their education. They see important posts (assignments, projects, etc.) and some of them use laptops or tablets in order to research or present a report (power point presentation). We can easily perceive the development technology had brought to people. Technology has positive and negative effects. It can help us in improvement, transportation, communication and it helps many to perform tasks effortlessly and fast. But it could be bad for us when we couldnt handle it wisely. By the time we are addicted on using gadgets/technologies we might become lazy and just depend on technology every day. If we want improvement and development we must use technology shrewdly not only for the purpose of education but also for better life. I would like to acknowledge everyone that the root of the technology and development is education. It is the key to success. It enlightens us to the right path of the correct usage of technology to bring development in our country.
