TASK 9 FORMAL PROPOSALS Title of magazine I have chosen to name my magazine Bass; this is because its short and

catchy, also can be referred to how hip hop is portrayed, as it is an urban term that is very familiar with my target audience and type of music. It also has the connotations of being quite loud, to represent the type of sound associated with hip hop in the magazine which will include styles, gossip and fresh, new artists, like Eminem & and The Game. Choice of genre I have chosen hip hop as my genre, as I already have background knowledge within the genre, also as it is my personal interest in music. This is since I have always been influenced by hip hop, as it reflects my personality and style. Therefore I would know what would be expected in hip hop magazine. I like XXL Magazine through its use of artists and style. My Target audience Hip hop stereo typical target audience would be Afro Caribbean males; however I am choosing to challenge this by aiming the magazine at both females and males aged between 16-26. However I have also decided to use a young male aged around 17 to be in the front, this is since hip hop is very popular amongst young male adults, so the magazine can be used to attracts all different types of readers, as the latest super stars are approaching from young ages, this shows that there are various ages included in hip hop which is mostly dominated by males. Initial ideas for Front Cover For my front cover, I am planning to use a medium shot of a young male artist, who is dressed very masculine but with the hip hop style, also the image to reflect attitude rather aggression, to show males are dominant throughout hip hop. I have also decided to colour the title of the magazine red, and use it as the house style colour throughout the magazine. Furthermore for the sell lines, I would like it to be related to the artist on the front cover, latest fashion trends and current hip hop artist. Initial ideas for My Contents page

For my contents page, the masthead will be a large B to represent the name of my magazine, followed by a speaker to represent the A and then 2 letter Ss to portray the name which will be placed in a contrasting colour with the content in order to stand out. I will also place all the features along the side which will be categorized. Whilst on the other side, there will be dominant image of the cover male and with a group of artists who he is preforming with the next gig. I will also be adding an editors note to my readers. Initial ideas for my article For the double page spread, I intent to do an interview with the male artist used in the cover however the way he looks will be different, this mainly includes his clothes and it will be based on an young male in the hip hop industry. It will not be dominantly text based, as I will use the page to devote to images, this way readers are able to find out her personality by giving a visual representation. I will do this by using for different pictures with different shot types to give a variety. Initial ideas for photographs The front cover photography, I have decided to use a medium shot of my male artist. For the contents I will use the dominant image of a wide shot of the artist with another group of male artists who would all preform together. However I have also chosen to have 3 other images, which will be close ups of different features of the magazines, I will use a mixture of males and females to show the magazine can also attract different genders. Lastly for the double page spread, I want to use 3 different camera shots, to express the artist in the interview, I have chosen to use a close up to reveal facial expressions, a long shot to show his whole body language, a medium close up to focus the attention upon him and lastly a medium long shot to reflect what his style is like (clothes). Furthermore I have used these shot types, as they most commonly found within hip hop magazines. Ill probably go for a plain background-maybe probably gold? For the cover, but would like a red color for the background in the article with some music props such as a microphone, amps etc. as the color red represents the masculinity and used a lot in hip hop.
