The people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Christ. This opening line of Sundays gospel reflects what is echoing within our hearts. The coming of a New Year is usually marked by gatherings of family, friends and lots of Fun! We reflect upon the last year and promise ourselves that this New Year will be better! We resolve to keep our rooms cleaner so mom will not have to remind us to clean your room. We plan to get our chores done without any complaints. We will do our homework NOW without delay as soon as we get home from school. Yes, this New Year will be different! Just for the kids who are thinking the Deacons writing just to them please remember that we adults have chores too. Things like the laundry, the ironing, meals to cook, dishes to clean (with your help), dusting and vacuuming, shopping and even shoveling snow now and then. Plus there are bills to pay, taxes to prepare, letters to write and a ton of other paperwork just like your math and English composition homework. Kids it is time to give your Parents a hug! And say, Thanks! This year is going to be better! We are going to open our hearts to the wonders God has in store for each one of us. We are going to act kinder, be nicer, show more Love to those around us. Most of all we are going to expect Christ to come among us today! Jesus may come to us as the classmate we help, as the coworker we assist, as the neighbor we greet. He may come as the stranger in the pew next to us. Jesus may come to us when we least expect him and come as the person we do not even like. But this year WE are going to be ready to greet Jesus whenever He comes to us. Because 2013 is going to be different; this year is going to be blessed!

Only when the hour has arrived for his glorification does Jesus promise the coming of the Holy Spirit, since his Death and Resurrection will fulfill the promise made to the fathers. The Spirit of truth, the other Paraclete, will be given by the Father in answer to Jesus prayer; he will be sent by the Father in Jesus name; and Jesus will send him from the Fathers side, since he comes from the Father. The Holy Spirit will come and we shall know him; he will be with us for ever; he will remain with us. The Spirit will teach us everything, remind us of all that Christ said to us and bear witness to him. The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth and will glorify Christ. He will prove the world wrong about sin, righteousness, and judgment." (CCC, n. 729) Please pray for those who are sick or suffering especially Dorothy Adelmann, Bob Devine, Ron Jones, Bill Bremmer, Greg Mahalick, Gene Keegan, Sue Klein

Baptism was important in the ministry of Jesus. At its beginning, Jesus was baptized by John. Here God revealed Jesus as his Son and the Spirit descended upon him. At its conclusion, Jesus commanded the Apostles to make disciples of all nations through baptism. It is in Baptism that we become sons and daughters of God.
