Mandatory School Uniforms There has been a heated debate for years, Pro school uniforms or against school uniforms. Both sides have different reasons for why there should be uniforms in schools or why there shouldnt be. With all the information I have gathered I think its time that people see that uniforms should be mandatory in all schools elementery, middle and high. School uniforms would be an asset not only to students but their parents and teachers and even the school itself. In 1996 a case Tinker v. Des Moines went to court, the court ruled in Tinker's favor stateing that school unfiorms failulate students feerdoem *. However, after many years of debate the political climate seems to have turned and the superm court is takeing the easy route and leaveing it up to the discretion of the local school borad *. The issue of school uniforms itself has not yet been faced by the supreme court itself. When dealing with school uniforms there are a few things you should look at, how this change well effect not just students but the school as a whole. You should look at the pros and cons as well as data from other school who have already made the move to mandatory school uniforms.

In Long Beach, it was found by officals a year after maddatory school uniforms were ineffect that overall school crime rate droped 36%. In Seattle, Washington after school uniforms were madatory there was a decrease in truancy and tardies* also there had not been a report of theft. In Malitmore, Maryland; Rhonda Thompson an offical form a middle school in the area said after school uniforms were madatory she saw a change in students performes " a sense of seriousness about their work" *. Some may try a count these changes as a coincidence however those school still have school uniform poilcy's and there stats are improving yearly. The postive out whieghs the negative when dealing with school uniforms. There are many rebutals students and parents alike seem to have when faced with thier school inforcing school unifom poilcys. Many state that inforcing students to wear school uniforms is takeing away a students freedom, on the other hand students aren't given freedom of speech in school. If a student is suscpected of something there property can be searched i.e. locker, bookbags and pockets, no freedom to privacy. The same when dealing with uniforms freedom to express themselves can wait untill college, school is a inastute for education inforcing school uniforms well teach students to perpare for when they are working and dressing "business casuall" *. Another rebutal many have is that school uniforms may make everyone look alike but that well make it hard to tell students apart if there was to be a fight or a fire alram. The easy sultion to that would be for the schools to miner detail changes for eatch grade an example, in Australie high school studednts must wear school uniforms yet eatch grade is given a different color shirts*. School uniforms well help all students to conform which well reduce bullying, uniforms well also make factiles job easier they well be able to spot an interder.School

uniforms well save students time when getting ready which well help with tradies. School uniforms could also save parents money no more name brade needed. School uniforms have been stated to incrase student attendece. School uniforms can teach students responsibilty, because they are responisble for thier uniforms making sure they meet the school reqerments. School unfiorms would help in many other area's as well, those cloros or design students wear to estiblish what gange there in well be no more. A study showed that a year after school uniforms were put into effect in
