ATTENDANCE POLICY 2012-2013

Family Commitment (from the KIPP STAR Elementary Commitment to Excellence)
1. Attendance We will make sure our child comes to school every day. We will schedule doctors appointments, vacations, etc. for days when school is not in session. 2. Timeliness We will make sure our child arrives at school every day on time (between 7:15 and 7:40 A.M.). We will make sure to promptly pick up our child at the end of the school day (4:00 P.M. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 2:45 P.M on Friday).

Attendance is the first step in promoting academic achievement. Families are expected to ensure that their child is in school. Students should not miss school except for serious illness. Since missing class affects academic achievement, repeated absences may be reflected in the students grades, and may affect promotion to the next grade. All absences and tardies are noted on progress reports and report cards. Students are responsible for all missed assignments, and families must arrange a way to complete all missed assignments and homework. The school will keep track of all student absences and tardies. We will send out quarterly reports to parents/guardians on the status of their childs absences/tardies. Please note the following: Students arriving after 7:40AM are marked tardy. 10 or more absences means that a student is PROMOTION-IN-DOUBT. This means that if your child misses more than 10 days of school, he or she may not be prepared to move on to the next grade, and will have to repeat the grade. 3 tardies is equal to 1 absence. When making final decisions regarding promotion, we consider both absences and tardies. If your child is going to miss school because of an illness: Please call Ms. Jimenez as soon as possible (212.991.2630) All absences should be followed up the next day with a note signed by a parent/guardian or doctor. If your child is absent Ms. Jimenez will follow up with a phone call.

Impact on School Privileges

In addition to impact on academic progress, students may also lose the opportunity to participate in school privileges, including celebrations and field lessons. More specifically, if your child is absent three or more times in a quarter, he/she may miss the next field lessons in that quarter. In addition, every three tardies equals an absence, and are considered when determining eligibility for field lessons. At the beginning of each quarter, the number of absences affecting field lesson participation will be reset to zero. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that the total number of absences will affect students grades regardless of participation in field lessons. Please reference the Family Handbook section on Attendance for any questions pertaining to types of absences, or for more information.

1. Asistencia - Nosotros nos aseguraremos que nuestro hijo/a vendr a la escuela todos los das. Nosotros planearemos citas mdicas, vacaciones, etc. Durante das que la escuela no est en sesin. 2. Puntualidad Nosotros nos aseguraremos que nuestro hijo/a llegara a la escuela a tiempo todos los das (entre 7:15 y 7:40AM.). Nos aseguraremos de buscar a nuestro hijo/a puntualmente al final del da escolar (4:00 P.M Lunes, Martes, Miercoles, Jueves, y 2:45pm Viernes). Sabemos que cada 3 veces estar tarde cuenta como un ausencia y est marcado en el reporte de calificaciones como ausencia.

POLTICA
La asistencia es el primer paso para promover el logro acadmico. Las familias deben velar por que sus hijos estn en la escuela. Los estudiantes no deben faltar a la escuela a excepcin de una enfermedad grave. Como clase que falta afecta el rendimiento acadmico, ausencias repetidas pueden reflejarse en las calificaciones del estudiante, y puede afectar la promocin al siguiente grado. Todas las ausencias y tardanzas se indican en los informes de progreso y boletas de calificaciones. Los estudiantes son responsables por todas las tareas perdidas y las familias deben acordar un modo de completar todas las tareas perdidas y las tareas. La escuela mantendr un registro de todas las ausencias y tardanzas del estudiante. Vamos a enviar los informes trimestrales a los padres/tutores sobre el estado de las ausencias/tardanzas de su hijo(a). Al tomar decisiones finales con respecto a la promocin, consideramos las ausencias y tardanzas. Si su hijo va a faltar a la escuela debido a una enfermedad: Por favor llame a Srta. Jimenez lo mas pronto posible. (212.991.2630) Todas las ausencias deben ser seguidas al da siguiente con una nota firmada por el padre/tutor o un mdico. Si su hijo est ausente la Srta. Jimenez har un seguimiento con una llamada telefnica.

Impacto Sobre los Privilegios Escolares

Adems del impacto sobre el progreso acadmico, los estudiantes tambin pueden perder la oportunidad de participar en los privilegios de la escuela, incluyendo celebraciones y excursiones. Ms especficamente, si su nio est ausente tres o ms veces en un trimestre, el / ella puede pasar por alto las lecciones de campo a seguir en ese trimestre. Adems, cada tres tardanzas equivalen a una ausencia, y se considera la hora de determinar la elegibilidad para las excursiones. Al principio de cada trimestre, el nmero de ausencias que afectan la participacin campo leccin se restablecer a cero. POR FAVOR TENGA EN CUENTA que el nmero total de ausencias afectar calificaciones de los estudiantes, independientemente de su participacin en las excursiones.
