President Frank said that both the Board and the NAR Committee will meet at 5:00 pm on Tuesday Feb 19 at the Holy Trinity Hall. Also, the Past Presidents of the Club will meet briefly after the regular Tuesday meeting, so please plan to attend if you have this distinction. He said he is now coordinating our regular meeting programs, and everyone should be diligent in identifying good speakers and signing them up. We need some more speakers for March meetings.

NEXT MEETING: February 19, 2013 Noon at Soda Center, SMC PROGRAM:

OTHER HAPPENINGS
Kevin Reneau introduced the January Employee of the Month, Brandy Ford, who works for Grant Shoaf at Mechanics Bank in Moraga. Grant has managed the branch for about 1 years, and had previously worked with Brandy for 3 years before, so one of his first acts (maybe the best?) was to get Brandy transferred into his branch.

HIGH FIVES AND HAPPY BUCKS

Debbie Roessler kicked in some bucks because today is the 45 anniversary of her going to work at Wells Fargo Bank (she was the best stagecoach driver they ever had!). Anne Damaschino gave a sad buck because her kitchen remodel is such a hassle. Barbara Bruner gave some bucks for the presentation by Michael Speer, the art historian who spoke at the 5 Club meeting last week. Ron Mucovich gave some bucks because his son, freshly armed with an Masters Degree from UN Reno, has a job on the athletic staff at Cal (Go Bears!). Gary Irwin gave 97 happy bucks, one for each year of his mothers life which ended in January, with a $3 tip in honor of the Sergeant-at-Arms. Cliff Dochterman drew his own raffle ticket, and generously gave the ticket to guest Jessica Spear, who failed to draw the lucky marble but was satisfied with the $10. To honor Cliffs program, a Lebanese woman was given a $25 loan through Kiva to expand her convenience store business.

THIS WEEKS PROGRAM

President Frank May rang the bell to bring the meeting to order, noting we have served the community and the world for 31 weeks over 45 years. Debbie Roesslers thought for the day was a good description of Champions. This meeting was our Valentines Dinner, so many guests attended: Mary Caburi, guest of Herb Wehmeyer; Linda Campbell, Honorary Member and wife of Jim; Suzanne Costanza, wife of Angelo; Anne Damaschino, wife of Doug; Carol Irwin, wife of Gary; Linda May, wife of Frank; Yelena Mucovich, wife of Ron; Lou Roessler, husband of Debbie; Jessica Spear, guest of Grant Shoaf; Ron Schopke, husband of Louise. Louises mother, Marie Sottile attended as well. A special guest was Brandy Ford, to receive a presentation. Announcements: President Frank reported that the 5 club meeting held last week at Rossmoor was a great success, and was attended by 11 Moraga Rotarians and guests. Tony Schoemehl announced that Rotary Field Day is scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday, May 15 at JMI. Well need every member possible to work this popular community service project. Angelo Costanza reported that Campolindo Interact President Emily Orwig has been selected to attend Camp Royal this August, with another player to be named later. Cliff Dochterman reported we have about 40 donations to the Nite at the Races auction, and that Grant Shoaf will be selling horse sponsorships for either $25/horse or

----PROGRAM---Our speaker was none other than Cliff Dochterman, test marketing a speech that was composed for Berkeley Rotary, Cliffs first Club and one of the oldest Clubs in Rotary. He is their oldest living Past President, 55 years ago at age 32. The topic was The Joys of Growing Older, and he forecasted it as a pretty short speech. Nobody tells you how to handle the aches and pains involvedit is strictly on-the-job training. The alternative to old age is not so good either. A lot of the culture changes over time, so the lessons we learned when young about Truth, Integrity,

Respect, etc. have been modified over the years and it is difficult to keep up with the changes. It all depends on your attitude! You can start the morning deciding either to share your complaints or to have a great day regardless of anything. You can take great joy having a small child fall asleep in your arms, or another child asking questions about ancient history (when you were younger, that is). When Cliff was RI President in 92--93, his slogan was Real Happiness is Helping Others. Another saying: Happiness comes through doors know were open. There is no road block on love, caring, helping, or listening. Cliff introduced us to the parable of the Hot Chocolate, where several University graduates met at a reunion after quite a few years. Most had been financially successful in life. They decided to call on one particularly inspiring professor to see how he was doing in retirement. They all told what they had been doing in life beyond the U, and the stresses involved in their chosen paths. After listening to them all, the professor made some hot chocolate for them and brought it out on a big tray with an assortment of cups. Many of the cups were fancy and ornate, and obviously expensive, while others were less fancy and more utilitarian. Each person picked his/her own cup and poured the hot chocolate from the pitcher. After more conversation, the professor pointed out that almost all of them had picked the most ornate cups, and a few even compared the cups they picked with others picks. He noted how their choice of cups was a parallel their lives; they represent a source of stress and add nothing. The quality of the hot chocolate and their satisfaction in drinking it was not affected by their choice of cupsthe cups were merely a tool to deliver the hot chocolate, which tasted great regardless. He says the happiest people are those that make the best of what they have, and lead lives that are simple, generous, and who make a difference.
