Introduction.

Project Background.

Shadow alarm circuit can sense a moving shadow in a confined area. It can be used to protect things from theft. When somebody approaches the unit, it will give a loud alarm to abort the attempt of theft. The circuit uses the light sensing property of the Photo diode. The circuit triggers when the light intensity changes without a shadow. It is better to keep the unit in a place where constant light is available. This circuit detects shadow, so high light intensity is required. The circuit basically works on the photo sensitive transistor which is the most sensitive phototransistor. Unlike the conventional alarms which requires a constant aligned light beam source to sound up that uses light dependent resistors (LDR) based on the opto-interruption technique. This circuit works even in a dim lighting in the room or where ever the alarm is placed. The circuit is so deigned that it can be used by the shopkeepers at night to avoid cases of theft and robbery.

Problem Statement.

Shadow alarms are widely used for security purposes. A shadow alarm is a device that generates an alarm whenever a shadow falls on it. Project can be easily installed on the windows and doors. This circuit demonstrates the principle and operation of a simple shadow alarm using LDR. The purpose is to prevent theft from entering our houses. The circuit is installed at the doors and windows, hence it will become easier to detect shadows of the theft. Eventually, the theft or robber will enter our home from doors and windows. When their shadow hits the LDR, the speaker will automatically ON. This will alert the house owner about the attempt of the theft and will take proper action to them. This kind of security system is so essential because nowadays the numbers of theft and robber are increasing within the country.

Objective.
The main motive behind the building of this project: 1) To construct a simple sensor application circuit. 2) To design an effective Security System with minimal budget. 3) To design a device that is affordable to the consumers. 4) To check for intruders or theft on site, within a specific range. 5) To reduce the number of theft within the country. 6) To introduce the new method of capturing and identifying theft and robbery.

Scope.
Design and Construction: Smaller circuit is required.
This circuit is to prevent theft and robbery, so, we need a smaller circuit to put it at the suitable places in our house or shop. This is because, when the circuit is smaller in size, the theft could not identify it and will accidentally fall for it. The smaller the size of the shadow alarm, the harder for the theft to recognize it.

Louder speaker or buzzer.

Shadow alarm will detect shadows and make the speaker to turn ON. Louder speaker was chosen because it will alert the owner of the house or shop. When a loud noise is coming out from the speaker, the theft or robber will immediately escape and cancelled his/her bad intention. Thus, a louder speaker is essential for this circuit to prevent theft from entering our house.

Sensitivity and price of the sensor.

For this shadow alarm circuit, we used a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) which is a light sensor to detect the shadows. We have identified that this sensor has high sensitivity towards light and is suitable for this shadow alarm. Moreover, we chose this LDR sensor because it has a reasonable price. Our true intention is to design a security system with minimal budget and affordable for the consumers.
