Materials for all the lessons: To teach my lessons in the classroom I am going to need a smart board.

In my high school all the classrooms had smart boards. I am going to also need a computer so I will be able to work with the smart board. Many times when Im lecturing I want to have some sort of outline on the smart board to allow my students to have a frame of reference of the notes they should be taking. I want the students to have an interactive experience and the smart board will facilitate that interaction and make sure its a hands-on experience. I know many classes are not equipped with a smart board but my classroom is fortunate enough to have one. Theme: Before Great Depression and Beginning of Depression Grade: Grade 11 and United States History Goals: develop and test hypotheses about important events, eras, or issues in New York State and United States history, setting clear and valid criteria for judging the importance and significance of these events, eras, or issues understand the interrelationships between world events and developments in New York State and the United States (e.g., causes for immigration, economic opportunities, human rights abuses, and tyranny versus freedom) analyze historical narratives about key events in New York State and United States history to identify the facts and evaluate the authors perspectives Objectives: 1. Students will be able to discuss how the United States and the economy were before the Great Depression. 2. Students will be able to explain the causes of the Great Depression. 3. Students will be able to learn how to take notes orally and from the board. 4. Students will be able to understand the election of Herbert Hoover and his policies during the 1920s and Great Depression. 5. Lesson: Warm up: Ask students what they think the economy was like before the Great Depression? 1. After students have answered the question, begin with the lecture notes shown on the smart board and have them compare what they thought the economy was like with what the economy really was like before the Great Depression.

2. Before I start with the notes on the Great Depression, I am going to begin with how I want them to take the notes from the board and orally. A. I am going to hand out the guideline sheet I created and explain to them how its set up for proper note taking and how this will be the form for the rest of the year. This will be an effective note taking format that will be easy to use to study from. For the notes they will take I will leave a generic version of the notes on the smart board so they have a basis, but the details and sub-details I will say orally and they will have to copy them. http://economics-the-economy.knoji.com/what-caused-the-great-recession-of-20082009/ 3.
