DRAFTING IDEAS-LAYOUT NOV-DEC2012 I have basically decided to focus on Vibe magazine and I want to adopt a similar layout and

approach with some alterations. BELOW IS THE TYPICAL COVER I WANT TO EMULATE

Header displayed at the very top of page right across from left to right. Big, Bold, black and capital font to be used.

Dope masthead shown at left top hand corner coloured in blue that connotes cool, fresh idea of magazine and the Stereotype of colours associated with males.. All letters in capitals possibly with black outline to make them stand out.

Main Cover line below masthead to the left with alternating colour. Blue for title of article and black for sub-text. Other cover lines below and some to the right hand side so as to be spread across front cover making it look more interesting.

Next Step The new face of Hip Hop

Most likely the background will be of a studio as denotation suggest musical production. This has relevance to my double page spread article.

Features

The images occupy the left hand side as to follow the rule of thirds. They will consist of a close-up, high angle and Medium long shots and will relate to some of my featured articles. To fill my middle column, so the contents page wouldnt be dominated by a white space, I might add an image of my cover artists, as my main image.

Contents title separated into two parts. Shows difference between other magazines and mine as the title contents, would normally be written as one word across the top of the page. Two contents list divided into two sections. Under the subheadings Features and Regulars. Takes up right hand third of page therefore obeys rule of
thirds

There will be variation in my image as the inclusion of the nice cheerful smiley woman is inconsistent with my magazine. Mise en scene is effectively achieved as you can easily tell its about an artist through the background being a studio and you can tell its about Hip Hop.DJ Khalid (the man behind the woman) looks moody and is wearing a chain round his neck, which are both trademarks of Hip Hop. It also has relevance to my article about new recording Hip Hop artists. I want to use the same sort of layout as the example article from Vibe below

Pull Quotation will be colour blue and in capitals to grab audiences attention.

Page number will be black with D, for the masthead of the magazine, next to it which will also be black.
