China thanks India for curbing Tibetan protests

China on one side blamed the Dalai Lama for stirring up extremist views in Tibet and at the other side it thanked India for taking effective and concrete steps to curb protests by Tibetans during President Hu Jintaos visit. Jamphel Yeshi, a 27-year-old Tibetan, died after setting himself ablaze to protest President Hu Jintaos India visit for the BRICS meeting in New Delhi. China held that Dalai Lama and so-called pro-freedom Tibetan activists were pushing extreme radical views by glorifying extreme behaviour which is not consistent with Buddhism. Chinese appreciated effective and concrete measures taken by government of India in order to control the protests.

India a big defence market in the future: US

US has asked the American companies participating in the DefExpo India 2012 to understand the procedures of Business in India as it observed that the Indian defence sector is going to be a big market in the long term. More than 20 US companies inclu ing some of the big names like Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman are participating in the DefExpo India 2012 at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Defexpo India 2012, the seventh in the series of biennial Land, Naval and Internal Security Systems Exhibition and is being held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from March 29 to April 1, 2012. US maintained that the Indian acquisition and procurement procedure is very different from what the American companies are used to so it has suggested its companies to be patient and understand the local culture and systems.

Dalai Lama awarded Templeton Prize in religion, science

The Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama awarded the 2012 Templeton Prize, a $1.7 million award that is often described as the most prestigious award in religion. The Dalai Lama is the highest-profile winner of an award that in recent years had been given to physicists and theologians not well known to the general public, but earlier had been given to the

likes of evangelist Billy Graham and the late Mother Teresa. In 1989 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The Dalai Lama is founder of the Mind & Life institute for research on science and Buddhism. Amy chief's letter to PM leaked

The contents of a letter written by General V.K. Singh to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the lack of defence preparedness appeared in a national daily. Those close to the General who was in Kashmir on Wednesday deny that the letter was leaked from his office, stressing he had nothing to gain by its contents being made public. Defence Minister A.K. Antony assured Parliament that the government was committed to ensuring the safety and security of the nation. The March 12, 2012 letter from Army Chief to PM says that India's security may be at risk as tanks are running out of ammunition; air defence is becoming obsolete; and the infantry lacks critical weapons.

HMEL promoted Bathinda oil refinery would be inaugurated in April 2012.

The ambitious 9 million tone HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd (HMEL) promoted Bathinda oil refinery would be inaugurated in mid-April 2012. It is a Rs 21,500-crore mega project. The construction of crude oil terminal and laying of 1,017 km pipeline between Gujarat's Mundra port and Bathinda was also completed in record 27 months. The refinery would produce high value petroleum products such as LPG, naphtha, petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, pet coke etc. The liquid products would be marketed through HPCL, while solid products like sulphur, pet-coke and polypropylene would be sold directly by HMEL. HMEL is a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Mittal Energy Investment Pte Ltd Singapore - a Lakshmi N Mittal group company.
