DearPresidentBollinger, Lastweek,SWSmembersdeliveredalettertoyouroffice,requestingameetingwithyou.We alsocontactedyourschedulerbyemailwiththesamerequest,inwhichweaskedfora responsebyFriday,March8at5pm.Thattimehaspassed,butwehaveyettoreceivea responsefromtheOfficeofthePresident.Wereiterateourdemandforameetingwithyouon thesubjectoftheFacultyHousenegotiationsatthetimeofyourchoosingandatthelocationof ourchoice. SWSdidreceivealetterfromVicePresidentScottWright,purportedlyinresponsetoour request,butwhichdidnotaddressthetopicofameetingwithyouinanyway.SWShastried andfailedtoworkwithMr.Wrightinaddressingourconcerns.Togiveonlyoneexample,on December6,SWSmembersmetwithMr.Wrightinhisoffice,whereheencouragedstudentsto attendcontractnegotiations,andpromisedtodothesame.Whenwefollowedhisadvice,the Columbianegotiatingteamrefusedtobargainsincestudentsintheroompreciselythe oppositeofwhatMr.Wrightsaid. Mr.Wrightisclearlyreceivinginstructionsfromhigherupintheadministration,andwehaveno interestinspeakingfurtherwithsomeonewhohasnodecisionmakingpower.Theresponsibility forthesenegotiationsrestsonyourshoulders,andwedemandameetingwithyoutoaddress thiscriticalissue.Wearewillingtomeetwithyouatanytimewewillprovidethelocation. SWSspeaksfortheentirecampuscommunityinexpressingconcernabouttheUniversity's conductatthenegotiatingtable.Undergraduates,gradstudents,faculty,communitymembers, andworkersareallunitedintheirdemandforjusticefortheFacultyHouseworkers,andwe're notgoinganywhere.Thisissueisstartingtoattractnationalmediaattention,castingdoubton Columbia'sclaimstobeaprogressivecommunity. Welookforwardtoyourpromptresponse.Wearetryingtorespecttheprocess,buteverytime wedo,oureffortsaremetwithattemptstosilenceus.Nowthattheworkersareabouttolose theirhealthcare,andtheadministration'snegotiatorsstillstonewallnegotiations,ourpatienceis abouttorunout.
