General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute & Museum

PROGRAMS AT A GLANCE
To develop a world-class learning institution in order to advance the understanding of historical events, encourage leadership development and inspire enlightened decision making by providing a forum for critical thinking through scholarly research, exhibitions, and public programs.

MUSEUM Located in the southwest Oklahoma town of Hobart, the current museum is housed in renovated historic downtown buildings. The 9,500 square foot facility includes a gift shop, a show room and display gallery that showcases items from General Franks personal collection. The museums theme of Leadership, Patriotism and Service is shared through many unique items, one-of-a-kind pieces, top secret videos and by the life lessons learned by General Tommy Franks. CATHRYN FRANKS CULTURAL HALL Under construction at this time is a 600 square foot addition to the museum. This space will be utilized to display temporary exhibits, meetings, and forums which will allow for an increased emphasis on Kiowa County, Native American, Southwest Oklahoma, and specific historically focused exhibits on topics such as Vietnam, WWI, WWII, Korean War, Nuclear History, and specific battles and campaigns to name just a few.

MUSEUM ROAD SHOW The Road Show brings traveling exhibits to middle school students sharing the cultural diversities and similarities of the people from the countries in which General Tommy Franks worked. Beginning September of 2008 the Road Show has traveled FREE to schools in excess of 80,000 miles and we are closing in on 100,000 students touring the exhibit across Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, New Mexico and counting. FOUR STAR LEADERSHIP WITH GENERAL TOMMY FRANKS FOUR STAR LEADERSHIP WITH GENERAL TOMMY FRANKS is a world-class summer leadership program that allows 50 of the top high school students in the US to have a face-to-face experience with national and international leaders. King Abdullah of Jordan, Governor Mike Huckabee, Governor Mary Fallin, General Tommy Franks, Secretary Jack Kemp, Governor Bill Richardson, Judge Andrew Napolitano, Senator James Inhofe and Olympic gold-medalist Michelle Smith are a few of the program participants over the past three years. The National Center for Policy Analysis, Oklahoma Christian University and the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute & Museum are partnering to create this opportunity for our next generation of leaders.

Students receive the same policy briefings world leaders receive and then are challenged to address those issues individually in a persuasive speech and editorial, and collaboratively in a Student Congress format. The program includes teambuilding exercises, spontaneous problem solving and coaching in persuasive speaking and writing. Students have an opportunity to gain scholarships, internships and much more. When students win a scholarship for themselves, they also win a financial award for the school that nominated them to attend. The program is built around the core principles of character, common vision, communication and caring that guided General Tommy Franks through a 38-year career. These principles form a platform of discovery for the next generation of Americas Leaders. INSPIRED LEADERSHIP A General Tommy Franks Leadership Experience developed in partnership with Cameron Universitys School of Business. INSPIRED by the life and LEADERSHIP principles of General Tommy Franks and communicated in an engaging and interactive format that will inspire you to discover your leadership potential. EXPERIENCE The Inspired Leadership Experience is a four hour workshop that combines historical fact, leadership principles, interactive activities and vivid illustrations that will provide the participant with a comprehensive view of General Franks applied leadership style and will assist in the discovery of the participants leadership potential. KEYNOTE Inspired Leadership Keynote presentations are focused portions of the full experience geared towards a business audience in order to address a specific leadership goal. These presentations generally range from 45-90 minutes in length. We are in Phase 2 of the development of this program. We have completed one full experience with data review at Cameron University and have conducted seven keynote presentations to assist in the development of the curriculum. Full implementation is scheduled for January 2013. MIDLAND EXHIBIT January 2013, we will install a 200 square foot exhibit in the I-20 Midland Visitors Center that focuses on General Franks time in Midland (from moving there as a child through his high school graduation) and the War on Terror. It will review the remainder of his career in brief. Along with the installation of this exhibit, we will conduct no fewer than two educational programs in Midland each year. CUSTOM LEADERSHIP PRESENTATIONS The development of successful leadership programming is dependent on meeting real needs within an audience demographic. Occasionally, we conduct custom leadership presentations for organizations and businesses. We have conducted five custom presentations in the past year.

These are opportunities to develop and refine our content in other programs to be more relevant to the needs of audiences. MUSEUM STUDIES CURRICULUM - SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY As an offspring of one of the custom leadership presentations conducted at SWOSU, we currently serve in a writing and advisory capacity in the development of a Museum and Historical Studies Minor Degree program. Our museum will be a primary field component within this minor degree. HISTORIC BUILDING RESTORATION In addition to the historic buildings that currently house our museum, we have taken on several other historic building projects that add versatility to our operations. STANLEY BUILDING The Stanley Building on Washington and 3rd Street was gifted to the General Tommy Franks Institute in June 2010. It is a three story structure that was built in 1929 and originally served as the Stanley Furniture Store and Elks Lodge. Currently we have restored the first floor (7,000 square feet of meeting space), removed the middle section of the second floor which restored the original mezzanine appearance, and continue restoration of the second floor. This space allows us to conduct workshops, meetings, banquets and other leadership programming venues. PEET STATION The Peet Station, located just south of the current museum, is a 1930s style gas station that has been renovated with the help of Hobart Main Street restoration grant program and has taken on the role as an additional showroom and consignment store for specialty items. This unique building houses interesting historic memorabilia. AN INVESTMENT IN LEADERSHIP IS AN INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE The stated programs being conducted by the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum are only possible through the generous contributions from individuals, organizations and companies that believe in the importance of investing in leadership. General Franks Four Stars of Leadership (Character, Common Vision, Communication and Caring) are intertwined in each and every program. We believe these are the leadership traits that when properly invested will positively impact the future of our country and world. We could not make this impact without those who have invested in us.
