This is also the result of great efforts and coordination between Vietnam National Steering Board for VINASAT project and related ministries and agencies. Great efforts have been made by the former Ministry of Post and Telecommunications now the Ministry of Information and Communication and especially by Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) in overcoming obstacles in the process of registration and negotiation with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as well as the cooperation with 27 other countries and territories to achieve the geostationary orbit position of 132 degrees East. The VINASAT project has received special attention of Vietnamese Communist Party and Government. This project is of great political and socio-economic significance, confirming Vietnams national sovereignty in space and promoting the countrys image in the international arena.

With VINASAT 1, Vietnam becomes the 93rd country in the world and the 6th in Southeast Asia to have our own satellite. In the near future, VINASAT 1 will help Vietnam provide telecoms, Internet, radio and television transmission services to all remote and mountainous areas, border regions/far-flung areas and islands where the local residents find it difficult to get access to these services through the traditional transmitting technology. Notably, the satellite will effectively assist in disseminating information for fishermen, facilitating the development of the marine-based economy and supporting the natural disasters prevention and emergency rescue. Besides, the role of Vietnams information technology sector is increasingly enhanced in the international arena. However, it is essential that Vietnams information and communication infrastructure be continuously modernized and developed in terms of technology, market and services to meet the ever rising demand in the industrialization and modernization of the country. This certainly requires further efforts made by not only the Government, related ministries and agencies but also the enterprises in the context of deeper international integration and globalization.
