Treatment for Chronic Fungal Sinusitis

Patient Instructions Treatment Strategy: How did you get Chronic Sinusitis?
In order to get well and maintain lasting results, it is necessary for you to understand why you have sinusitis. In September 1999 Mayo Clinic published an article that demonstrated that 93% of all chronic sinusitis is caused by mold. How Chronic Sinusitis develops: 1. You breathe airborne particles (mainly mold), which cause an allergic reaction. 2. This reaction causes small pits to form in the lining membranes of the sinuses. 3. These pits trap mucous so that the mucous cannot drain. 4. The stagnant mucous gets infected which causes nasal polyps and thickening of the lining, which obstructs the outflow of mucous. 5. The polyps cause more infection. 6. The infection causes more polyps. 7. This causes a vicious cycle that is self-perpetuating.

How to get well when you have Chronic Sinusitis?

When you get rid of mold in the air you breathe you can get rid of the mold in your nose. This allows blocked sinuses to drain and you are able to get longterm relief. To establish and maintain drainage in blocked sinuses you must: 1. Remove the mold in the nose and; 2. Remove the mold in the air you breathe To do this it is necessary for you to follow all the steps of the treatment. This is your key to wellness. Leaving out just one step will cause the treatment protocol to fail. The principles of treatment are simple. You must breathe clean air in order to get well and to stay well long-term. In Allergic Fungal Sinusitis, to get well, you must achieve a mold plate count of

0-4 colonies per plate with a 1-hour plate exposure. This is key. Unless you do this nothing else will work long-term. 1. Use the Mold plates as directed to locate problem areas in your environment. 2. Irrigate your nose with Normal Saline (0.9% salt water) at least 2 times per day. This rinses the mold and other particles out of the nose. Use a water pick with special adapter or ear bulb syringe. Do this long term. 3. Use a facial steamer when infected or congested to breathe steam into the nose. 4. Take you medications as prescribed by your doctor. 5. If you have a sinus blockage that does not clear with medication, follow your doctors advice to have good sinus drainage established via endoscopic sinus technique. It will make a difference. 6. Use your antibiotic and antifungal nasal sprays as directed. If you have 2 bottles, use both sprays at the same time. 7. Clean your environmental air of mold by using all of the following items in the rooms where the mold count is greater than 4 colonies. a. Put either a Hygenaire or a Wein 2500 ionizer, not both, in each room you stay in, e.g., bedroom, kitchen, den, office, etc. This will kill airborne mold. b. Put a HEPA air filter in the same rooms. This removes small airborne particles like fiberglass that can make you sick. c. Put vent covers on all supply vents in the rooms you use most. Spray the supply vents with the solution daily. This kills any mold that gets caught in the vent cover. d. If you go into areas over which you have no control, or you cannot do the above items in your environment, wear a Wein 150 mm personal air purifier to insure that you breathe clean air. 8. Take allergy shots if prescribed. 9. Take Immune boosters: a. Thymus vitamins 1-2, 2 times a day after food b. Colostrum 1-2, 2 times a day after food
