Pudhu Vaazhvu Project, Pudukkottai District Campaigns for issue of National I.D.

Cards to Differently abled persons and for distribution of Government assistance.

Introduction: Pudhu Vaazhvu Project is being implemented in 4 blocks of Annavasal, Gandharvakottai, Karambakudi and Kunnandarkoil of Pudukkottai District from 01.06.2011 and covered with 155 Panchayats divided into 10 project areas. The object of the project is to identify the poor, very poor, vulnerable and Differently abled persons and to reduce the poverty among them with empowerment. It was ascertained from the various awareness camps conducted in the project area that there are about 2000 differently abled persons who did not get the National I.D.Cards. So, under the directions of the Project Director, Pudhu Vaazhvu Project, Chennai and the District Collector, Pudukkottai 4 camps were conducted on 5.01.2013, 7.01.2013, 10.01.2013 and 12.01.2013 at Gandharvakottai, Annavasal, Kulathur and Karambakudi respectively. The Honorable Minister for Adhi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare, District Collector, M.L.As (Viralimalai and Pudukkottai), District Panchayat Chairman, Panchayat Union Chairmen and Panchayat Presidents were present and contributed their valuable solutions for reduction of Poverty by providing Government assistance to the poor, vulnerable and differently abled persons. The District Project Management Unit has made brief arrangements by disseminating about the camps among public community and Government officials so as to avail the benefits by public in these camps.

For all these camps, the following Specialists and technicians have attended. 1. Orthopedic Specialist 2. E.N.T.Specialist 3. Psychiatric Specialist 4. Child Specialist 5. Ophthalmic Specialist 6. Physiotherapist 7. Ophthalmic Assistant 8. Audiogram technician

Distribution of funds to VPRC In order to implement the poverty reduction programmes under Pudhu Vaazhvu Project, funds are being sanctioned and distributed to the VPRCs in the ratio of 40:40:20 at 3 installments. Out of 155 Panchayats in Pudhu Vaazhvu Project areas, Ist installment of funds were already distributed to 142 VPRCs and funds to the remaining 13 VPRCs have been distributed by the District Collector during these camps held on 05.01.2013 and 07.01.2013 at Gandharvakottai and Annavasal at 6 and 7 each respectively.

Details of Seed Money distributed: The Seed Money is being sanctioned and distributed to the S.H.Gs after getting appraisal reports from the field functionaries. Accordingly, 20 Special S.H.Gs were formed with 169 differently abled persons and 15 S.H.Gs were formed with 193 poorest people identified under PIP. After the existence of 3 months of time to the above S.H.Gs, As per the norms Rs.15,000/- and Rs.20,000/- were sanctioned by the VPRCs to S.H.Gs of differently abled and target group and to a total amount of Rs.6,35,000/- was distributed by the Honorable Minister for Adhi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare on 12.01.2013 as detailed below. Distribution of Aids and Appliances: The eligible differently abled persons identified during the above 4 camps were distributed with the following Aids and Appliances supplied by the NIEPMD, Chennai (ADIP) and District Differently abled and Rehabilitation Officer, Pudukkottai.

Distribution of Government Assistance: During the above Camps, the Revenue Officials attended and arranged for Government assistance such as Monthly Pensions to the differently abled persons and details are as follow.

Distribution of Computers, Printers and UPS to VPRCs: Computers and Accessories to all the 155 VPRCs were purchased under Pudhu Vaazhvu Project and 112 Nos of computers worth about Rs.43,33,616 were distributed to the Office bearers of VPRC on 12.01.2013 for handling the accounts effectively.

Conclusion: Thus the Camps arranged under Pudhu Vaazhvu Project gave chances to identify the correct and eligible beneficiaries by creating awareness among public which provided benefits to the appropriate persons. If such camps conducted twice in a year then it will be more beneficial to rural public.
