Meet Your Acupuncture Practitioner

Elizabeth D. Neil Lic.Ac. M.A.OM.

Licensed Acupuncturist Elizabeth earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services from Lesley University in 1991. Her work eventually led her to work clinically in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She completed a four-year graduate program at the New England School of Acupuncture, where she trained in the Chinese style of Acupuncture as well as Herbal Medicine. Additionally, Elizabeth has a special interest in childrens health and wellness as well as oncology. Elizabeth has also pursued advanced acupuncture training in the Master Tung Acupuncture Style that advances patients recovery with minimal needles to bring out the maximum response. What drew me to Acupuncture was a desire to help people, and that continues to be the primary focus of my treatments. I have found the combination of healing that comes from hands-on therapies with Western Medicine, together, are powerful tools to resolve dysfunction and promote natural healing processes. Embracing economical, practical and gentle treatments, my approach to healing is both straightforward and compassionate and I look forward to working with you and helping you to achieve your health care goals.

What Is Acupuncture?

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Mission

Acupuncture, developed by the Chinese thousands of years ago, as a primary care system. Introduced in the U.S. in the 70s and endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), it is performed to stimulate designated points on the body in order to relieve pain, enhance recuperative powers, and strengthen the immune system. This is done through the insertion of small needles, finger pressure, application of heat, or a combination thereof.
What Can Acupuncture Do Anyway?

The standard answer is no... but the truth is, you feel some sensation with acupuncture treatment but it is rarely sharp or painful. When you think of needles, what comes to mind? Probably not the most pleasant thought. Most of us have had an experience with hypodermic needles that made you cringe. Some of us are fearful at the very thought of a needle. The reason is that hypodermic needles are fairly thick and hollow because they are designed to inject fluids or draw blood causing a more painful sensation when piercing your skin. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin are designed to create blood flow. The needles are ten times smaller in size than the average hypodermic needle so they dont hurt in the same way, however, you may feel a light warm sensation as they are inserted, or a sense of heaviness or slight tingling traveling up or around the point. At worst, you might feel a sensation like a pinch, but remember, the sensations of acupuncture are subtle and most patients find the sensations deeply relaxing.

We offer acupuncture for children and adults. Our personalized service in private treatment rooms for 60 minutes reflect our dedication to treating families and our commitment to improve the wellbeing of patients. By providing the best complementary medical solutions to our patients we make the most of the contributions of both Western medicine and alternative health care and support in order to enhance public health and well-being.

If you suffer from chronic pain, are overweight, anxious or depressed, if you have allergies or sinus problems or have been trying to quit smoking and have not been successful with conventional treatments, perhaps it's time to try something unconventional. Why not acupuncture from Family Acupuncture and Herbals?

Actually, there are studies that have proven that acupuncture DOES work. It has been shown to enhance the immune system, which might explain its success in treating allergies. Acupuncture has also been shown to stimulate the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain killers. And it appears to regulate levels of neurotransmitters such as serotonin which play a role in depression. Make sense? We think so.

In-depth

explanation of how Chinese medicine works in general, and specifically how it can directly influence your specific health issues.

Acupuncture has been used successfully to treat young children and animals, neither of whom have preconceived beliefs about the effectiveness of acupuncture. As with any healing modality, be it traditional medicine or acupuncture, a positive mental outlook and lifestyle can reinforce the effects of treatment, just as a negative attitude or lifestyle can hinder healing. A neutral attitude ("I don't know if I really believe in this.") will not block the treatment results.
