The InWEnt gGmbH Independent Work Abroad Program offers students, recent
college graduates, and young professionals under the age of 30 the opportunity to
work in the Federal Republic of Germany. For those participants who need to
improve their German language skills before beginning an internship or career
training program, there is also the opportunity to participate in an intensive language
training course.
The Independent Work Abroad Program is designed for American and Canadian
students, as well as recent graduates who have already gained work experience in
their fields and are ready to expand their careers into the international arena. In this
case, the participant finds the internship on his/her own, and contacts InWEnt
gGmbH with the information from the host company. For this program, the German
work exemption is issued to the participant through InWEnt, and is valid for a
duration up to 12 months.
Please see the following pages for application requirements and procedures. If you
have any questions about the application procedures or the program, please contact
Rana Deep Islam at the InWEnt gGmbH office in Bonn.
Duration of Internship
Students do not need a work permit in Germany. InWEnt gGmbH will apply for an
exemption for up to twelve months. Further extentions after these 12 months are
not possible.
LANGUAGE TRAINING
STIPENDS
A limited number of stipends are available for the language course, which includes
tuition and housing (value Euro 1420). The stipends, provided by the German
Foreign Ministry, are available to U.S. citizens only and can only be granted in
combination with an internship of at least three months for the Career Training
Program.
The maximum age for all program participants is 30. You must be a U.S. OR CANADIAN
CITIZEN. Citizens of other countries must be enrolled students at a U.S. college or
university and will be responsible for obtaining a visa to Germany.

support letter stating that your work authorization will be taken care of. This
usually improves placement chances. Once you have accepted an offer from
a company, please provide us with complete placement information: dates of
the internship and the host company contact information. Your work
authorization will be issued approximately 5 weeks later.
2 Apply after you have found a host company. In this case, please submit
complete placement information (dates of internship, host company, contact
information) with your application at least 5 weeks prior to your start date. In
