Sexual Response Cycle Two of the earliest researchers of sexual response were Masters and Johnson.

In 1966, they published the results of a major study of sexual physiology based on more than 10000 episodes of sexual activity among more than 600 men and women (Masters. 1998). In this study, they described the human sexual response as a cycle with four discrete stages: excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution.
