1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking 3.L.2: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing Objective: Students will be able to greet each other will eye contact and a handshake. Students will also be able to find spelling and grammatical errors in the morning message. Materials: Morning message Procedure: 1. I will instruct students to sit on the edge of the rug so that everyone has room to sit and can see me 2. I will sit in the chair so all the students can see me and hear the directions 3. I will then explain how we will be greeting each other this morning 4. We are going to do skip greeting. How this works is, I will pick someone to start and we will all stand up when it is time to start. The person I pick will step into our rectangle and count four people next to him or her and then greet the fifth person. You will shake their hand and say good morning with their name and that person will say good morning back. They will then switch positions and the person who just counted will sit down and the person who was just greeted will step into the circle and skip four, and greet five. And then we will keep going until everyone has been greeted 5. I will instruct the class to stand up and be the example for class to show them all how it would work 6. I will make sure that the whole group understands how the morning greeting works and then we will start 7. I will pick a popsicle stick (one for each student) randomly out of the can and that student gets to start the greeting 8. Skip four, greet five begins

9. Once the greeting is over I will give the students praise for completing the greeting 10. We will then move on to our morning message 11. I will ask students to move to where they will be able to see the morning message 12. Students I think that there are some things wrong with this message that I wrote Lets read it out loud together and then figure out what we need to fix. 13. Students and I will read the message aloud. 14. Who can raise their hand quietly and tell me something that I need to fix in my message. 15. I will call on students who are sitting nicely with their hands raised; I will also try to call on other students before I call on a student twice 16. Once the students believe that they have found all the errors in my message we will read the message again to make sure it sounds right 17. If all the errors have been found I will thank the students for helping me find the errors in my morning message Assessment: Students greet each other, using first each others first name, eye contact, and a hand shake Students find the errors in my morning message and tell me how to correct the error Management Issues/Transitions: Transition from desks to rug: call students by table number Transition from rug to desks: dismiss students back to their desks based on the color(s) of their shirts If students are unable to sit nicely and quietly next to each other I will ask them once to not talk and if they continue to talk to each other I will ask one of the students to move to a different spot on the rug Differentiation: If a student is struggling with the skip four, greet five I will help the student complete the task There will be some easy errors to find and some hard errors to find and I will make sure that certain students get the opportunity to find the easy errors
