1 Present continuous and present simple

A The present continuous The present continuous is the present tense of be + the ing-form: Im getting the lunch ready. Were playing cards. Sarah isnt working today. What are you looking at? I am playing OR Im playing you/we/ they are playing OR youre playing he/she/it is playing OR hes playing Im not playing am I playing? you/we/they arent playing are you playing? he/she/it isnt playing is he playing? B The present simple In the present simple we use the verb without an ending: I get the lunch ready at one oclock, usually. We play tennis most weekends. Most children like ice-cream. But in the third person singular (after he, she, it, your friend etc), the verb ends in s or es: He wants some help. My sister catches the early train. *I/you/we /they play he/she /it plays We use a form of do in negatives and questions. We use do and dont except in the third person singular, where we use does and doesnt. Negatives : We dont play tennis in winter. He doesnt want any help. Questions : Do you play tennis? What does he want? * I/you/we/they do not play OR dont play he/she/it does not play OR doesnt play We do not add s to the verb in negatives and questions. NOT : He doesnt plays or Does he plays? do I/you/we/they play? does he/she/it play?
