Provide examples. -Ask students to tell you some adjectives they know that could describe someone -Introduce the story by giving the students the title and tell them that they will be choosing one of the characters in the story and picking adjectives to describe them -Tell the students to pay close attention to the characters and try to think of things that might describe the characters as the story is being read to them -Read Diary of a Worm

-Throughout the story, ask questions about the character and what he likes/doesnt like to do -When the story is completed, ask the students to name some of the characters -Ask the students to name a few adjectives that describe some of the characters -Describe to the students that when they are told to go back to their seats, they will need to choose a character and brainstorm adjectives on a piece of paper -Tell them that after they brainstorm a few ideas, they will be given a paper picture frame and will need to draw the character they chose for the picture and write their adjectives around the frame -Ask the students if they have any questions -Send the students back to their seats by table -Circulate the room to make sure the students are on task and writing down describing words for the character they chose -As the students finish their list of words, give them their paper frames and tell them to write their words around the frame and draw a picture of the character -Circulate the room to check student progress and assist if necessary -When a majority of the students are finished, call the students back to the carpet by table (make sure they bring their completed frames and have them put the frames on the floor in front of them when they sit) -Choose volunteers to stand up and present their frames -Ask students why they chose certain characters/adjectives -After several students have shared, ask the students what they learned to do today -Dismiss the students back to their seats by table after concluding lesson Differentiation: -For students that may need help thinking of adjectives, ask questions such as What did this character like to do? What does that tell you about the character?

-ESL students can be given some extra help during individual working time if needed -The movement from desks to the carpet then back to the carpet will be beneficial for students with attention difficulties Management/Transition: -Students will be called to and from the carpet by table -Students will be told to sit in regular spots -In order to get students attention, say 1, 2, 3, eyes on me so that they repeat 1, 2, eyes on you and stop talking to focus on you -Tell students to place their completed frames on the carpet in front of them and leave it there until they share it to keep it from being a distraction Assessment: -Assessment of student understanding of adjectives will occur during the mini-lesson when the students are answering the questions. We will be able to gauge the students understanding by their ability to provide adjectives and descriptions of the characters. -Assessment will also be possible while the students are working independently on their frames. Circulating the room will make it possible for us to see how each student is doing with the assignment and see which students need extra help.
