Stall at EPCH crafts Fair Noida 18-22nd February

Vrnda Dala from our supply chain team represented Industree at the Indian Handicraft and gift fair 19th-22nd Feb organised by EPCH where we had two stalls sponsored by Cohands. She took over 60 samples made at the Bangalore cluster units to display and secure export orders. Samples included a variety of rivergrass home furniture and furnishings. Our rivergrass and natural fibre products are unique, a new range of export items gives natural fibre global exposure can help our production units improve quality standards, expand our production in order to provide more employment to artisans and develop innovation in natural fibre based crafts. Vrnda had a fun experience and had the chance to speak to many export house buyers who were interested in the items. She and Sumit from our merchandiser team were also able to speak with other export retailers and exchange experiences in the craft industries, they will now work to secure orders for our production units.

Executive Business program sponsored by Havard Business School A leadership training that prepares companies for the next steps in their careers and lives took place in February in Mumbai. This program helps organizations create fresh ideas, new business skills, and a greater capacity for addressing the challenges their companies will face. The program consisted of a mix of lectures, presentations, business simulations, small group discussions, and the hallmark HBS case-study method. An active learning model that teaches participants how to assess, analyze, and act upon complex business issues. It develops analytical skills, sound judgment, and the leadership potential within each participant. Neelam Chhiber attended the program and learned that a companys processes are just as important as the innovation of the company and that innovative companies should also have efficient innovative structures in place. Of the 84 participants 3 were women and mainly from India and also from South Africa, Middle East and East Asia

Know Your Crafts: Kondapalli Toys

The wooden toys of Kondapalli are lightweight and come from Kondapalli, a little village near Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. They are crafted by artisans known as Arya Kshatriyas, a community of people who immigrated to Andhra Pradesh from Rajasthan in the 16th Century. The artisan families use the soft poniki wood to create toys that include everyday scenes from village life to figures of deities including the ten avatars or divine manifestations of Vishnu. The dolls require a lot of skill and each one is unique. The process for each piece is long and each detail is worked out with patience. The process starts with drying out the wood, then each limb is separately carved and joined to the body with a paste of tamarind seeds and given a coating of lime glue. The doll is then painted with vegetable dyes and enamel colours which make them lustrous and vibrant. The painting is done with soft and thin paintbrushes made of goats hair. Swans, Peacocks and Parrots are also crafted. Kondapalli toys bring colour and joy to a kids life, they create awareness about rural life and folklore through play.
