2 Running Head:LESTER INTASC Standard, Description, and Rationale Standard#10: leadership and collaboration The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance to profession. Name of Artifact: service learning Date: March 22, 2013 Course: Education 101 Brief Description: For my standard, Leadership and Collaboration, I used it for my assignment because i believe that the teacher often times communicates with the families to encourage the students more. And also it helps the students feel like they can do it , it makes them push harder. Rationale: I surveyed my students and my classroom and observed the way my teacher interacted with the students. Though this assignment doesnt really mention much about the students ii havent payed much attention to what goes on outside my classroom.

3 Running Head:LESTER Introduction During my few hours at Brookside Elementary I have learned much more about my students. Im still learning the building and the community. Im quite comfortable the atmosphere of the school. My goal is to leave some type of mark on my students future goals. Climate/Culture When I enter school #54 its a friendly atmosphere. The front staff are always so helpful. They often times just wave me about my way and wish me a good day. I havent really toured the school. Outside of going to my classroom, Ive never been to any other hall. I have no idea if the school even has vending machines let alone are the vending machines unlocked. The behaviors that I have seen both appropriate and inappropriate are handled very delicately. Often times I see my teacher just tell the children to move their colors based on the kids actions. The moving of the colors changes the students attitudes for the better because they dont want their parents to be contacted at the end of the day./ if a parent happens to have to be contacted its usually via phone , though I havent seen my teacher have to contact one parent as of yet. Building Atmosphere Since I havent been around the building im not sure what the library or cafeteria looks like. The condition of the building seems like an old building but kept up well. There are bulletin boards posted around in the front office and the main hallway. I havent taken the time to really look at the bulletin boards but at a glance it looks like upcoming events are posted. As I walk to my classroom there is much art work posted up

4 Running Head:LESTER on the walls. Some of the pictures are the kids being able to rhyme words with hat. Other work is with popcorn and macaroni. Programs Offered I have noticed that the school nurse is always in the building when I enter, I do believe she is full time. As far as I know breakfast is offered to every student in the building regardless of the financial standings. Im not sure if the school offers after school programs. In my class we do have a student who needs academic assistance but she is not separated from the class she gets the extra help she needs in the classroom with the same teacher as her fellow peers. Conclusion Im hoping in the future I will learn more about the school Im currently working with. I also want to learn the community. As far as the climate and culture of the school its quite comfortable and much like a close knit family gathering in the classroom Im working with. The students and the teacher has a relationship and the students respect the teacher.
