April 24, 25, 26 Years ago I had a Honda 250X four
wheeler and my buddies and I would go
riding just about every weekend. The
Kernsville Dam was one of our favorite
places to ride. Maybe you remember
when the silt basin at the “Kerny” was
this month open to the public. There were dirt bikes,
four wheelers and yes, even three wheel-
ers zipping around in the dust and mud.
When it got too hot we headed into the

or it could have just been that old envi-
ronmental complaint.
We didn’t get to do much riding after
those areas were closed. My four-wheel-
er went into storage and that would be the
end of the story except about a year and a
half ago. My Dad was looking for some-
thing to keep him active. He bought a
Suzuki four-wheeler and started riding

close to home. But sometimes we ven-
tured a little farther, up to the coal regions
to kick up some of that black coal dirt.
