Words of Wisdom "Accept the challenges presented to your child. Mrs. Hogan is an amazing teacher who meets every child exactly where they are and then lets them soar to his or her highest potential...trust her and your child will not only be successful but also challenged and rewarded."

A list of the top three things about this year 1. Individualized attention from Mrs. Hogan. 2. Homework and projects that are meaningful, challenging and not "busy work." 3. Children will gain condence, mature in many ways and learn to be disciplined hard working students. Remember to listen to Mrs. Hogan. She knows each child on a very personal level.

A list of the top ve or ten things about this year - in no particular order: 1) The Primer Play, Bugz 2) Family game time 3) Marathon Kids 4) Paws for Reading 5) Brain Breaks "Remember to let your child make mistakes and learn from them." "Get ready for a very thorough parent teacher conference. We loved seeing the grading rubric. It really helped us understand the grades and comments."

Get Ready For... "Homework on Mondays. I highly recommend keeping your Mondays and your child's Monday activities light. It's a great day to come home early, check out the homework packet, and organize your time and week accordingly. Since we had never tackled it before, it was great to do most of it on Monday. My daughter began to expect to do any project the day we got it rather than last minute. I hope this habit sticks."

The Top 5 Things About the Primer year: 1. As a parent I began to love and look forward to the projects my daughter would bring home. They inevitably became a family affair and spurred wonderful conversations at the table. We actually had a lot of fun creating them. 2. The primer play was so much better than anyone expected. Denitely invite all grandparents and friends. 3. Watching your child's love of learning explode this year. Priceless! 4. Listening to my daughter read aloud condently by Christmas. Amazing. 5. I was surprised that technologycomputer games- iPads- apps etc... made learning better and more interesting for my daughter. I had previously thought of games as serious time wasters for couch potatoes. I stand corrected.

Quotes from the year: "Yesterday, my son was looking at his homework packet and smiling and saying, "This is so fun." He then said, 'Maybe this is why everyone says she is the best teacher, she gives the best homework'. " "The kids that get these owers are going to love them!' said one student. While planting owers in window boxes for Habitat or Humanity. "It's good to help other people because it makes everyone smile." said another student.

Field Trips "My child LOVED each eld trip. There were many great trips that supported the learning in the classroom."

Technology "Mrs. Hogan exposed my child to many avenues of technology. From parent orientation, we were introduced to a few sites and devices. Every two weeks, we were given additional websites and apps that support the curriculum in the class. My child is now craving technology to learn and to show his learning to others."

"Get ready for a fun year!"
