CASA SCHLAEFER

In 2006, the Sister Parish Committee of Holy Family Catholic Community and United Hearts for Health decided that it would be beneficial to have a building in Rosita that the local people could use for meetings and educational programs and that UHH and the Sister Parish Committee could also utilize when traveling to Rosita. Casa Schlaefer was an older building that the Vicariate owned and was about a mile from the hospital. A plan was formed and a Fond du Lac volunteer, Jack Shanahan, agreed to be the construction manager. After the Vicariate agreed to allow the building to be remodeled, a volunteer architect drew up a plan and local people in Rosita were contracted to do the actual work. The building was completed with six bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a fully-equipped kitchen with appliances from Silica Hardware in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. It is well designed and a most comfortable place to sleep, live, and eateven in extremeheat. UHH mission groups continue to stay at Casa Schlaefer when they make their annual medical mission trip to Rosita. It provides a safe and comfortable environment for them.
