Knit Snuggly Mouse Pillow

Design by Michele Wilcox Skill Level Gauge: 16 sts and 20 rows = 4" in St st (knit right side rows, purl wrong side rows). Use any size needles to obtain the specified gauge. Abbreviations beg beginning; inc increase; k knit; k2tog knit next 2 sts together as 1 (1 stitch decreased); kfb knit in front and back of specified stitch (1 stitch increased); mm millimeters; p purl; psso pass slip stitch over; rep repeat; RS right side; sl slip; St st stockinette stitch (knit RS rows, purl WS rows); st(s) stitch(es); tog together; WS wrong side; [ ] rep repeat instructions inside brackets the number of times specified; * repeat instructions after asterisk as specified.

Row 1 (RS): Kfb in each st across 24 sts. Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl. Row 3: * K1, kfb in next st; rep from * across 36 sts. Rows 4-34: Work even in St st. Row 35: * Sl1, k1, psso; rep from * across 18 sts. Row 37: [Kfb in next st] 3 times, k3, [kfb in next st] 6 times, k3, [kfb in next st] 3 times 30 sts. Rows 38-56: Work even in St st. Row 57: * K3, k2tog; rep from * across 24 sts. Row 59: * K2, k2tog; rep from * across 18 sts. Row 61: * K1, k2tog; rep from * across 12 sts. Row 62: Purl. Bind off all sts. With RS facing, sew front to back and stuff. Using a double strand of yarn, make a running st around neck at Row 36 and pull to shape neck. Knot securely and weave in ends. Muzzle: Cast on 24 sts. Row 1 (RS): Knit. Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl. Row 3: * K2, k2tog; rep from * across 18 sts. Row 5: * K1, k2tog; rep from * across 12 sts. Rows 6-8: Work even in St st. Row 9: K2tog across 6 sts. Cut yarn, leaving a long end. Thread end through yarn needle, then pass needle through sts on knitting needle, slide them off needle and pull tightly to close opening.

Head and Body (Make 2): Beg at bottom of body, cast on 12 sts.

With RS facing, sew side seam. Stuff muzzle lightly and sew in place on face. Sew eyes and nose in place. With 12-strands of black embroidery floss, embroider mouth with straight stitches. Knot a short length of embroidery floss on each side of muzzle close to nose to form whiskers.

Leg (Make 2): Cast on 14 sts. Rows 1-16: Work even in St st. Cut yarn, leaving a long end for sewing. Draw end through sts on needle and pull tight to close. Using same yarn, sew side seam. Stuff leg and hold Row 1 flat as you sew leg to body. Arm (Make 2): Work same as leg through Row 14. Finish same as leg. Tail: Cast on 50 sts. Knit one row. Bind off all sts. Sew tail to bottom back of body. Ear (Make 4): Cast on 8 sts. Row 1: * K1, kfb in next st; rep from * across 12 sts. Rows 2-10: Work even in St st. Row 11: K2, [k2tog] 4 times, k2 8 sts. Row 12: Purl. Row 13: K2tog across 4 sts. Bind off all sts. With RS facing, sew 2 pieces tog for each ear. Sew ears to Head along cast-on row of ear.
