Sine wave generator

is a type of electronic equipment that generates a pure, oscillating frequency in a sinusoidal pattern. A sinusoid function goes up and down and up and down in a consistent, smooth, rolling pattern of hills and valleys. A sine wave generator produces these waves, which are called sine waves because they have the mathematical shape of the trigonometric sine or cosine function. Sine wave generators are used for many tasks, including calibrating measurement equipment and generating sound effects.

Ripple tank is a shallow glass tank of water used in schools and colleges to demonstrate the basic
properties of waves. It is a specialized form of a wave tank. The ripple tank is usually illuminated from above, so that the light shines through the water. Some small ripple tanks fit onto the top of an overhead projector, i.e. they are illuminated from below. The ripples on the water show up as shadows on the screen underneath the tank. All the basic properties of waves, including reflection, refraction, interference and diffraction, can be demonstrated. Ripples may be generated by a piece of wood that is suspended above the tank on elastic bands so that it is just touching the surface. Screwed to wood is a motor that has an off centre weight attached to the axle. As the axle rotates the motor wobbles, shaking the wood and generating ripples.

String Vibrator

/vibration in

a string is

a wave.

Usually

a vibrating

string

produces

a sound whose frequency in most cases is constant. Therefore, since frequency characterizes the pitch, the sound produced is a constant note. Vibrating strings are the basis of any string instrument like guitar, cello, or piano.

Rubber Mallet

are used when a softer blow is called for than that delivered by a metal hammer. They are

typically used to form sheet metal, since they don't leave marks and are softer, as well as for forcing tight-fitting parts together, for shifting plasterboard into place, in upholstery, and a variety of other general purposes, including sometoys. It is a tool of preference for wood workers using chisels, with plastic, metal or wooden handles - as they give a softened strike with a positive drive. It is the most commonly used mallet.

Stop Watch a timepiece designed to measure the amount of time elapsed from a particular time when activated and when the piece is deactivated. The watch is typically designed to start measuring time at the push of a button and stop by pressing the button a second time to stop measuring time elapsed. The device is used in events when time periods must be measured exactly and with a minimum of complications. Sporting events like sprints are a major example. The stopwatch function is also present as an alternative function of many digital wristwatches. If an analog wristwatch has a stopwatch function, it is called a chronograph.

The snare

drum is a two-headed drum, as is the bass drum and other orchestral

Drums make use of circular membranes which have manymodes of vibration. The excitation of the various modes depends upon where the drum is struck. Thetimpani is struck near the side to excite certain preferred modes. By contrast, the snare drum is struck in the center and excites the 01, 02, 03, modes. The fundamental frequency for an ideal circular membrane with no air damping effects is given by

and band drums used in Western music. On the snare drum, eight to ten wire-bound gut strings, or snares, usually are stretched across the lower of the two heads; they vibrate against the heads as the membranes are struck. The two membranes of the snare drum are acoustically coupled to each other, particularly at the low frequencies. This coupling via the enclosed air acts to double the modes. The lower frequency member of the mode pair involves both heads moving in the same direction and for the higher mode they move oppositely.
