Year: 2013 Training Workshop on Air Conditioning


SLEMA conducted two day workshop on Improving the Energy Efficiency of Air Conditioning Systems on 3rd and 4th May 2013 at the Centre for Banking Studies (CBS). Eminent and expert personnel in the Air Conditioning Industry delivered presentations at the training program. The Programme was successfully conducted with the participation of 25 trainees & executives from various well known organizations. The participants and executives shared their knowledge and experience making the program even more productive. Resource persons were Prof. Rahula Attalage, Dr. Lal Jayamaha and Mr. Chandana Dalugoda.

The course has been specially designed for Maintenance Engineers / Energy Managers of commercial buildings, hotels and factories. Lectures were conducted on the following topics;
o o Energy efficiency techniques of air-conditioning, design tips and examples Enhancing the efficiency of air-conditioning systems and performance measurement and verification of chiller systems Impact of maintenance of air-conditioning systems on operating efficiency

Abans (Pvt) Ltd. sponsored the event and the participants highly appreciated the quality of the workshop upon completing it. Those who successfully completed the training programme were awarded certificates by SLEMA. Dedicated organizing efforts of SLEMA board members Mr. Kamal Illeperuma and Mr. Sisira Vitharana were instrumental to the success of the workshop.

Sri Lanka Energy Managers Association successfully conducted a workshop on Professional Approach to Electricity Costing and Tariffs on 22nd May 2013 at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. Workshop was moderated by Prof. Ranjit Perera.

SLEMA Energy Management Forum


Sri Lanka Energy Managers Association organizes the Energy Management Forum to uplift the knowledge of SLEMA members in different areas of energy management. It is basically a technical discussion session conducted for the benefit of SLEMA members. The 6th SLEMA Energy Management Forum (EMF) was held at the SLEMA office on 06th May 2013 with the participation of members and guests of SLEMA who shared interest on the topic discussed. The discussion topic of the 6th EMF was Pumped Power Generation and Applicability to Sri Lanka. Ms. Thushara De Silva, a board member of SLEMA and a Planning Engineer attached to Ceylon Electricity Board made the main presentation.

This Workshop was specially designed for all types of electricity consumers, journalists, industry/commercial chambers, think tanks, professionals and policy makers. The workshop proved to be a very successful and a timely event generating a lot of interest among the target audience. The Workshop covered Sri Lanka electricity supply system, operating principles and rules and methodology in calculating electricity costs and prices in a professional manner. Presentations were made by Dr. Tilak Siyambalapitiya, Eng. Lakshitha Weerasinghe, Eng. Anura Wijayapala, Eng. Samitha Midigaspe, Eng. Harsha Wickramasinghe, Eng. Bandula Tilakasena and Eng. Buddhika Samarasekara.

Ms. De Silva provided valuable insights into pumped hydro technology in the context of Sri Lankan power system extracting from her own experience as an electricity planner. The participants also shared their views and managed to get updated and expand their knowledge on the concept of pumped hydro through the informative presentation

supplemented by expert views of fellow forum participants.
