Summer Reading Program


We are now one month into the summer reading program and have been having lots of fun. The opening with Leonardo was a hit, the kids had lots of fun and heard some really good music. herb garden kits. They had lots of fun digging! Michael Albert came to visit and was really a big hit! He talked to the kids about art and his history in finding art. He then talked the kids through making their own cerealism artwork as well as designing a piece just for the library!

Then the 3-5 age group learned about gardening, dug in dirt for prizes, started their own sunflower and

The 6-8 and 9-11 groups learned about fossils and were presented with a nice talk and examples of local fossils by Pavanne Pettigrew from WVU-P. After that they got to do their own fossil digs for mini-dinosaurs, gems, sharks teeth and more! We have lots of exciting things coming up to finish off the summer.

July 3rd we will have the Theatre de Jeunesse coming in to present excerpts from their presentation of Pirates of Penzance. We will also be checking off time logs and having a drawing for a really nice pirate ship kite! They will be performing several different songs and parts of the play that will amuse you and give you music to think about. On July 10th the 3-5 group will meet for Know Your Dinosaurs where they will hear stories, make a red brontosaurus booklet, make a dinosaur, have a snack and some games/songs. On July 17th the 6-8 group will meet for Know Your Dinosaurs where they will hear stories, Do a dinosaur puzzle/game, sing some songs and get a take home craft. On July 31st the Oglebay Park Zoo-To-You program will be visiting us with live animals that dig and burrow! Make sure to come in and see these wonderful animals. On August 7th we will be having our final meeting in which the great childrens ventriloquist , Mark Wade, will be performing for us!! Mark teaches the kids about ventriloquism and then On July 24th the 9-11 group will be meeting for Gnomes Rock where the kids will paint their own pet rock gnome, act out the book Gomeo & Juliet with gnomes and watch the movie!! uses magic and puppets to entertain the kids. He is always a hit!!

Then on that same day we will be showing Jurassic Park 3D to the 80 lucky people with tickets that show up. There will be popcorn, snacks and fun!!
