The movie entitled The Constant Gardener is about Justin Quayle. He is a British diplomat assigned in Kenya. He has a wife named Tessa. She is a medical doctor. They first met in a conference. Their first meeting was not good. Tessa was furious about a position outlined in Justins lecture. They have different viewpoints. Even they are different kinds of jobs became an issue to both of them. But despite of this, they have a good relationship where they grow together. The story revolves around finding the true cause of the death of his wife. Unknown to both Justin and Tessa, when she was still alive, there is an ongoing underground operation and alliance between some members of the British Government, Kenyan government, a drug company and a pharmaceutical company. This operation involves testing a new vaccine to underprivileged Kenyans. They are doing this secretly. The vaccine is causing death to some. Tessa was able to discover this unlikely operation. She made a report describing how the vaccine is deadly and she also included the people behind it. She then, submits it to a British diplomat. Unfortunately, this diplomat was involved in the operation. She was murdered, as well as her colleagues to stop her from exposing what she had discovered. After Tessas death, Justin became curious and doubtful about the job of his wife. He realizes that he knows little about the undertaking of Tessa. He began searching for the real cause of her death. Upon searching, he discovered that Tessa had an affair to a guy named Chris who is his fellow diplomat. She uses their affair to get an access to the British diplomat, to whom she sent the document revealing the illegal operation. Justin read the love letter addressed to Chris and his heart was shattered. Tessa only uses it to get what she needed. After Justin collected the evidences, he found out the truth, the truth about the operation and the truth about his wifes death. He exposed what he found out. The expos include the British diplomat who is part of the conspiracy. He returns to the place where his wife and her colleagues was murdered and await for his death there. The drug company transferred to another African country to continue its operation. The setting of the movie was in Kenya, an African country. The film was able to show how the illegal operation was easily done in a developing country. It was depicted that most of the people in a country like that are passive. They treat foreigners from the western countries as more knowledgeable people, so they let these people to use them as testers from the new vaccine, not knowing the implications of it. The Kenyan government is letting some members of the British Government, a drug company and a pharmaceutical company to use their country to perform the said operation. They are letting their citizens to be jeopardized. By letting these foreigners perform this kind of activity, they are sacrificing their internal affairs. The film was able to show glimpses about the political settings of the said country. A developing country like Kenya is letting the foreigners to perform such operation in their own territory to have an access to the people from developed countries like Britain. The Kenyan leader is sacrificing his people by letting the operation continues. The movie was able to portray how a mindset of an African leader is, when it comes to their government. The film was able to touch the political development in some part of African continent by showing that of Kenya. The native Kenyans feel inferior that they are letting Western foreigners to treat them like that. The operation, that unfortunately they became part of, caused many of their lives. Their humanity is already being violated and they cant do anything about it. The test results are being altered, if someone died because of the vaccine. The film was successfully in delivering the message about Kenya during that time.

The impoverished Kenyans were forced to be the testers without any declaring their voluntary participation. They deserve explanations as to what the vaccine will cause them. But it was not clarified to them. The Kenyan government is letting the Western foreigners to make Kenya their venue for their illegal operation. It affects the working of their government in the local level. Their government is sacrificing its constituents for the sake of money making. The Kenyan leader, by letting the operation continues, did not think of his people. He let the foreigners to use his citizens as a tester. By this, he is disregarding the individual rights of the Kenyans. He knows for a fact that if only the citizens knew about the real effect of the vaccine, his people will not involve themselves in the operation. The film Constant Gardener was able to show the political aspect of Kenya, also, glimpses in connection with democracy. The film portrayed how democracy was being violated in the film. By looking in the impoverished Kenyan alone, it is clearly stated. By not telling or explaining what the vaccine can cause them is very insolent. Not because they are not educated, they feel inferior and underprivileged; it means that the knowledgeable can do those things to them.
