Our Purpose
Corner House Youth Project and Know How North East have formed a partnership with the aim of securing and delivering quality targeted support across Stockton on Tees that responds to the needs of those between 8 to 25 years old. Our Alternative Education Programme has been developed over many years. The provision is offered to secondary schools, or agencies acting on their behalf that are looking for placements for young people who struggle to manage their behaviour in a mainstream educational setting.
Our Objectives
To integrate our efforts and secure additional resources to provide seamless targeted support to young people and their families. To promote early interventions with young people from age eight upwards and continue to engage with them through the transition to adulthood. To shape a local programme of activity, reflective of the national agenda, that embraces the full range of young peoples needs and moves them towards active engagement as citizens. To influence the future provision of services to young people.
Our Strengths
We combine the strength of two organisations that collectively have the infrastructure, skills and know-how to deliver targeted interventions whichmeet the needs of young people living in Stockton. THIRD SECTOR INNOVATION | experieNce | intellIGENCE
for
provides the ideal starting point for learners aged 13 years and over who wish to develop their leadership skills, whilst under the direct supervision of their Tutor/Assessor. With 33 Guided Learning Hours recommended, the course has six units of work and is ideal for developing generic leadership skills that will be vital in other areas of life. The Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership will give learners the chance to develop their organisation, motivation and communication skills, whilst also focusing on positive role models in sport, how to mentor others, and how to use leadership skills in a variety of settings. For people aged 14 and over, learners may have already gained their Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership or this may be their first step onto the volunteering pathway. There is no requirement that learners wishing to embark on the Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership must have previously completed the Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership. Sports Leaders UK qualifications have now been awarded CVA points which can be used to contribute to a students attainment level. Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership - 6.25 points Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership - 23 points
Playmaker Award
The Playmaker (formally Young Leader Award) is a great introduction into leadership for learners aged nine and over. The award aims to help develop leadership skills such as organisation, communication and team work as well as helping to develop confidence and self-esteem. The award is flexible and can be used in a wide variety of settings, including schools and sports organisations and can be delivered as part of a normal school programme, lesson or session, as dedicated leadership sessions or club, or as a one day course.
Youth work
Targeted Youth Work
Our Targeted Youth Work programme in collaboration with Stocktons Youth Direction and Cleveland Fire Brigade is a highly successful piece of youth work in four areas of Stockton on Tees. We currently cover Norton, Parkfield, Tilery and Port Clarence delivering activities dealing with issues such as risk taking behaviour, crime and anti-social behaviour; including delivery during school holidays. Holiday Programmes
