This tour lets visitors to Heidelberg experience the city in a new and different way. After training on how to ride the Segway scooter, you will soon be gliding along the river Neckar all the way to the historic and trendy suburb of Neuenheim. The tour continues along the Neckar towards Heidelberg Zoo and through Neuenheimer Feld and its impressive campus and University Hospital buildings. The highpoint of the trip is the Philosophers Walk where youll enjoy a fantastic view of the Castle and the home stretch through the woods back to the starting point. During Advent, with a little luck you will hear choirs and instrumentalists rehearsing Christmas music behind the windows and doors of the Neue Universitt (New University) or in the nearby St. Peters Church while on an early evening stroll through the Old Town. The Heidelberg Christmas Market in the Old Town has an Advent-season flair all of its own. In the course of an entertaining and contemplative guided tour you will learn a great deal of things that are worth knowing about this regions Christmas and pre-Christmas traditions. This enchanting tour leads from the Market Square to the University Square, taking you through the most beautiful nooks of the Old Town. Founded by Prince-Elector Ruprecht I in 1386, Ruperto Carola is Germanys oldest university and celebrated its 625th anniversary in 2011. To mark this anniversary we would like to welcome you on a walking tour to enjoy a glimpse of the universitys history and student life. Stops along the way include the Old Assembly Hall (Alte Aula) located in the Alte Universitt building and also features a look at the historic student detention lock-up called the Karzer. From 1778 until 1914 students were locked up there for minor infractions. The tour continues to the University Library which houses the world-famous collection of songs known as the Codex Manesse and concludes at St. Peters Church (Peterskirche) directly opposite, the oldest church in the Old Town. Located in the Old Town with glorious Heidelberg Castle overlooking it, the Heidelberg Christmas Market is spread across six historic squares, beckoning one and all to enjoy the cheerful Advent mood and glow of Christmas lights.

The Old Assembly Hall displays paintings and busts of important figures in the history of the University as well as the most important scholars up to the 19th century and is used today as a banquet hall. The tombstone of the universitys first rector, Marsilius von Inghen, is located at St. Peters Church, which also serves as the university church.

Liselotte von der Pfalz (Elisabeth Charlotte, Princess Palatine), was born in Heidelberg in 1652. Later the Duchess of Orleans, Princess Elisabeth was the sister-in-law of the Sun King Louis XIV of France. The dwarf Perkeo was a court jester and in charge of the giant Heidelberg Tun wine vat at time of Carl Philipp, Elector Palatine (1661-1742).

The tour also passes along the Hauptstrasse (Main Street), one of the longest pedestrian zones in Europe. Evening tour

When the castle is lit up red from the last rays of the sun and the reflections of the city lights shimmer in the Neckar river, Heidelbergs most romantic hours have begun. Savor this atmosphere on a guided tour of the Old Town. Starting from the Marktplatz (Market Square), where numerous cafs invite you to sit back and unwind, you are guided through the many picturesque streets and sights steeped in history, finally reaching the Old University at the end of the tour. It feels like your own VIP box: Your seat on the bus gives you a stunning view of the Heidelberg stage. First act: Karlsplatz in the center of the Old Town, with its imposing view of the Heidelberg Castle. This is followed by a leisurely drive along the river Neckar, with a break at the Old Bridge for a first photo stop. Discover the magical interplay of bustling everyday life and world-famous sights. Act 2 is entitled Heidelberg Castle: There you will experience a fascinating tour through the history of the world famous building. At the end of the guided tour your Castle ticket allows you to enjoy the ride on the funicular railway which stops in the Old Town at the bottom Kornmarkt station. A minimum of five persons must be signed up for any tours given, except for the City and Castle sightseeing tour in English, which always takes place. Schoolchildren, students (up to 28 years of age), handicapped persons with a handicapped ID and holders of a HeidelbergCARD receive a discount. If you have reserved tickets, we ask that you collect them 30 minutes before the tour begins.
