Conclusions
1) SealedparkinglotscontainPAH concentrationsthatare148times higherthanconcreteparkinglotsand41timeshigherthan unsealedasphaltparkinglots. lots 2) Forstreamandpondsamples,12%arenontoxic,42%are borderline,and 46%aretoxictosedimentdwellingorganisms. 3) Siteswithmoresealedparkinglotareasdrainingtothemalsohad highersedimentPAHlevels.Thisstrongrelationshipindicatesthat parkinglotsealantisasignificantsourceofPAHsinSpringfield watersheds. 4) IfsealantswerenotusedonparkinglotsinSpringfield,PAH concentrationsinurbanstreamsandpondswouldbebelowtoxic levels.
