How has the world you come from shaped your dreams and aspirations? When I was 4 years old, I was diagnosed as having a reading and learning disability. My father did not learn to read until he was an adult and my mother always encouraged him t go back to school and learn to read and get an education. Because of my parents experiences with reading and learning, they were able to encourage me to overcome the reading and learning disabilities that I had. They always made sure that I had the extra help when needed and now that I am a successful student, I am able to help others. I have seen how literacy can hold people back and I believe that I am successful and literacy mentorship because I am not afraid to share my personal story. Of all the ways you could succeed in your life, why have you chosen to succeed in the Miss America Pageant? The Miss America Organization is the flagship organization for helping women through scholarship and education. I have always been involved with organizations that have a mission of giving back and have benefited from many of the scholarship dollars or mentoring services these organizations provide. I wanted get involved with the Miss America Organization because they focus solely on women and I know how important it is for young girls and women to be surrounded and supported by positive roles models behind the scenes and in the spotlight. The Miss America Organization as far surpassed any other non-profit in doing this and I want to become a part of such an important organization with such a powerful mission. What social issue, other than your platform, will have the greatest impact on your generation and why? I think that social media education is a must. We are living in a day and time where there is almost a 100% dependency on social media and or technology, but as these tools grow and become more accessible, there seems to be a lack in educating people about the effective use of social media and other parts of this growing technology. I think that it is clear that social media does things to heighten peer pressure, bullying, over sharing and the dissemination of too much personal information, and in some instances users are placing themselves in danger because of how they are using social media. Proper education and in some instances more legislation regarding social media is important for a generation that has grown up not knowing a world without technology.
