To the Attention of the Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship

Committee and
Ms. Nelly Galloway Shearer:

I am writing on behalf of Myryka Arviso-Yazza who is currently an AMES senior and

was in my Workplace Skills/Internship class last year.

Myryka is one of our top students here at AMES and is a delightful young woman.
She is academically inquisitive, quiet but personable with all students, supportive of
others, focused on her future, dedicated to issues of the environment, concerned
with Native American issues and open to new ideas. She is interested in pursuing a
career that encompasses sustainability and preservation of the environment. This
has led her to get involved in a variety of community programs to expand her
knowledge and understanding. She did some volunteer work with Jordan
Conservation Gardens and then decided to get more involved in the programs at
Red Butte Gardens by assisting with their summer outreach programs. She is also
involved with the Salt Lake Urban Indian Walk-In Center and volunteers to help
younger children learn about their culture by teaching them dance and crafts.

As a member of our partner high schools (Cottonwood High School) Drill Team she
has learned the discipline of working with a team and meeting deadlines on time.
She has also been chosen by the AMES faculty to be a member of AMES Student
Council and helps to plan the various social and service projects that the Council
supports.

Myryka enjoys spending time in the outdoors and is a very kind and gentle person.
She is almost always found with a smile on her face and a friend at her side. I can
highly recommend her as an outstanding student and one who would fully
appreciate the opportunities gained by receiving this scholarship to continue her
education.

I am happy to share any other information that you are interested in about this fine
young woman.
