Welcome to the 2013-2014 academic school year at Glenarden Woods Elementary School (GWES). We hope that you had time to relax and spend extra quality time with your children during the summer. We are so excited about what this year has in store for our students, teachers, and parents! As you settle into this new school year, please choose to support your PTA. Todays PTA is committed to ensuring a bright future for children. Our mission is to make every childs potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. Home of the Glenarden Tigers The Beacon on the Hill Whether you are a PTA Board member, dedicated parent volunteer, or one of the tremendous GWES faculty, your contributions and involvement with the PTA will help ensure our students have the resources, programs, and support they need to succeed. For example, the PTA helps host and/or fund cultural initiatives, family engagement events, stop-gap measures, Grandparents Day, Teacher Appreciation Week, field trips, and many other activities that support the students and faculty of GWES. However, none of this would be possible without your support. All of us have many personal and professional obligations that compete for our precious time and money, so we truly appreciate and celebrate whatever you can contribute to our school. We have something for everyoneno amount of volunteered time is too short, and no financial contribution is too small. Included in this PTA Welcome Packet, please find the Volunteer Committee List, Membership Form, and the tentative PTA Calendar of Events. Please complete and return the Membership Form to your students homeroom teacher or you can drop off your application at the PTA table during GWES Back to School Night on September 11 @ 6:30 PM for Teams 2 & 3, or September 12 @ 6:30 PM for Teams 4 & 5. Starting in October, PTA meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of the month in the schools multi-purpose room. Please make sure we have your email address so we can keep you informed about upcoming events. We want to hear your ideas, questions, and concerns, so please email us anytime (pta.gwes@gmail.com). This year, most of those parents are gone because their children graduated. We now need many parents to come forward who are willing to serve in the open board positions and/or various committees. We know how busy our families can keep us, but please know that your contribution to GWES really does matter. This is your school, and you can make a huge difference! FACT SHEET 2013-2014 Glenarden Woods Elementary School PTA Committees

The Membership Committee, Chaired by (volunteer needed), coordinates PTA Membership Drive activities. In addition, the Membership committee organizes and maintains the PTA membership database and coordinates membership card distribution. The Educational Enrichment Committee is chaired by (volunteer needed). These volunteers assist with school outreach efforts and special after school activities The Fundraising Committee is chaired by (volunteer need). The volunteers coordinate fundraising efforts for the PTA. The Publicity Committee is chaired by (volunteer need). The volunteers on this committee coordinate communication with our parents via flyer creation, printing and distribution. In addition, these volunteers coordinate phone blasts, emails, Facebook updates and the PTA webpage maintenance. The Hospitality Committee is chaired by (volunteer needed). Volunteers on this committee serve as greeters and assist with set-up for special events such as breakfasts and luncheons. The Special Events Committee is chaired by (volunteer need). The volunteers coordinate and assist with special events such as Teacher Appreciation Week, Book Fair, Field Day and other activities. The Corporate Sponsorship Committee, chaired by (volunteer needed), appeals to businesses on behalf of our school for donations. In addition, volunteers on this committee seek out and apply for grants for our school.
