Lucid Family Spotlight

This month we would like to spotlight the Vus. Mr. and Mrs. Vu joined the Lucid family in January of 2011 with their son Kekoa, now 4 years old. He was diagnosed with childhood apraxia of speech and a receptive/expressive l anguage disorder. His sister, Malia joined him a year later and was diagnosed with an articulation disorder and a receptive/ expressive language disorder. Mrs. Vu stated that she chose Lucid and knew we made the right move when we were welcomed into a family friendly, warm environment where everybody treated our kids like family as opposed to just patients. When asked what challenges and progress she has noted, Mrs. Vu stated that perseverance through frustration has been the most difficult and that Both of our kids still have to take a few tries sometimes to be understood to not only outsiders, but also us in the home. Although this is difficult, she noted that both of my children are they are a lot happier in being able to communicate. When Koa first arrived he made no sounds- not even single syllables, no consonants, nothing. Since he started he's been a happy little boy, growing and working hard. Regarding Malia, she stated Malia has also come out of her shell since coming to Lucid. She used to be very shy, very unsure even of being with people outside of the home. The Vus have a very special light around them as a family, Mr. Vu often coming to therapy as well. When asked what their important family values are, Mrs. Vu responded, God first, and keeping Christ centered in our family and at the forefront of all of our family's journeys; love others the same way we show love for ourselves and each other in our little family; working hard together- we want our kids to know that through whatever they face they aren't alone; and lastly playing together- all of our activities are done as a family and we make sure that we do things that we can all do together. Join Lucid at the Rock Autism Event

Come and join us in supporting the Autism Society of the Inland Empire. Rock Autism has quickly become a way for families to get together and show their support for their loved ones, receive resource ideas from all over the Inland Empire, enjoy a fun zone for kids, and just have a good time. This year Rock Autism is holding a morning walk as well. The 3.2 milk walk starts at 8:00am and a $10 donation per walker is suggested. You can sign up for the walk at www.rockautism.info. Kodi Lee will be appearing for his second time at Rock Autism. His performances are inspiring and exactly what the doctor ordered for a good time. Dont miss it! Check out his website at www.kodileerocks.com. All the money raised goes to Autism Society Inland Empire which then goes back into the community for vital programs and resources for children and adults alike with ASD. FAMILY SPOT LIGHT CONTINUED. What an important message! She noted that she deals with difficulties and hardships though prayer because God never gives you more than you can handle, stating Our faith in Him is what gives us the strength to get through the tough times. Last, when asked how they bond as a family, she said that spending time with her extended family, who happen to be very supportive, as well as working in the different ministries at their church as a family brings them closer. They also LOVE Disneyland even slipping in that she and her husband got engaged there! Warming our hearts, Mrs. Vu ended the interview telling us, Therapy has been so beneficial in our lives. Both kids look forward to their therapy days. In fact, they don't even refer to it as speech, they refer to it as if they were going to visit a friend, Mom, I see Ms. Lauren today? Or in Malia's case, Mom, I see Melanie, right?! When you tell them it's not their days they're insistent that at least they have one coming up soon. The kids both love therapy and I can see that they walk away feeling a little bit that much more accomplished. The Vu family has been a pleasure to work with and we are so happy to congratulate them on their third child due early February!
