Chapter 2 Overview of Absolute Vibration Monitor Module

Chapter 2

Overview of Absolute Vibration Monitor Module

The absolute vibration monitor module is a dedicated vibration monitoring module that is capable of simultaneously monitoring both the relative shaft vibration and absolute shaft vibration, or both the relative shaft vibration and seismic vibration, of the rotating machinery. The module is capable of receiving input from a maximum of two systems (relative vibration: two channels, seismic vibration: two channels). The recorder output or contact output corresponding to the input is externally output via the rear connector of the instrument rack.

2.1

Functional Description

This section provides the basic description of the measurement function, display function, alarm function, output function and control function provided by the module.

2.1.1

Measurement Function

z Calculating the Gaps and Measurement Values

The offset voltage value and the amplitude value are detected from input signals to calculate the sensor set gap voltage value and measurement value for each monitor. This module is capable of calculating the combination of following measurement values based on the input signals for displacement vibration and velocity vibration. Combination Output Channel 1/3 Output Channel 2/4 1 REL: Relative shaft vibration ABS: Absolute shaft vibration 2 REL: Relative shaft vibration SEIS: Seismic vibration 3 SEIS: Seismic vibration ABS: Absolute shaft vibration * REL (Relative): Relative shaft vibration, which is the displacement vibration output detected by the displacement transducer * SEIS (Seismic): Seismic vibration, which is the output obtained by converting signals from the velocity transducer to displacement vibration (amplitude) * ABS (Absolute): Absolute shaft vibration, which is the output obtained by subtracting seismic vibration from relative shaft vibration

z Calculating the Analysis Data (Optional)

Based on input signals, data required to analyze the vibration of the rotating machinery (1X amplitude/phase, 2X amplitude/phase, etc.) is calculated. This function is enabled only when the optional analysis function is added to the module.

z High-pass filter (low-cut filter)

A high-pole (10-pole) high-pass (low-cut) filter is available for selection, which is suitable under circumstances in which the signal frequency is close to the noise frequency. You can switch between the low-pole (4-pole or 2-pole) and high-pole high-pass (low-cut) filters by shorting between FILT1 and FILT2 terminals on the instrument rack.

Suppression Function
This suppression is the function that cancels the floatation of the zero point by piping vibration or noise when the machine is not running. The suppression can be set at 0.0 to 5.0% of the monitor range. For details about the suppression setting, see "4.6.1 Basic Settings (Absolute Vibration Monitor) P.28".

Note: The displacement range shown above is the input value when the calibration frequency is 100 Hz. The input value must be recalculated if a different calibration frequency is used. The following calculation is applied for other ranges and input signals (the range is converted to mm): Displacement range: 2 x x Calibration frequency x (Range/2) x Input signal sensitivity/2 = mVrms Example: 2 x x 100 Hz x (200 m/2) x 3.94 mV/2 = 175.0 mVrms Velocity range: Range x Input signal sensitivity/2 = mVrms Example: 20 mm/s x 3.94 mV/2 = 55.72 mVrms Multiply the input by 0.99 when the explosion proof specification is used. In addition, when the rms rectification is used, multiply the range by 2 and then calculate the input value and gain.

Maintenance and Service

This chapter describes the maintenance and inspection procedures for VM-7.

7.1

Exchange for Module

This is an explanation of the procedure for exchanging the module for maintenance or service. After exchanging the module, the module should be set or calibrated. This equipment has Channel Bypass function which prevent to output all alarm and recorder output. (Channel Bypass) The function allows you to replace a module without stopping other modules. When the Channel Bypass function is used, there is no output from the contact that is related to the warning even if the measurement value exceeds the warning set value. Be sure to understand the risks of using Channel Bypass alarm setting the module.

Warning
Once a module is uninstalled, the alarm relay contact output terminal is in open mode. If the alarm output of the module is assigned to the relay of other module, uninstall the module using Channel Bypass. When the Channel Bypass function is used, there is no output from the contact that is related to the alarm even if the measurement value exceeds the alarm setting value.

Caution
Before any contact with the unit, be sure to touch the metal objects, etc. so that the static electricity is discharged. Avoid any contact with the component side, board or soldered parts of the instrument rack or the module. Failure to do so may result in damage to or malfunction of the unit. The instrument rack and the module are precision instrument. Avoid any excessive shock or vibration. Ensure that all the fasteners on the instrument rack are tightly fastened and the instrument rack is securely fixed. 1 Store the backup file of the exchanging module. This file is used to install for new module. (See "4.3 Loading/Writing the Setting P.23".) Uninstall the module. (See "3.3 Uninstalling the Module P.20".) Install a new module. (See "3.2 Installing the Module P.19".) Check that all the fasteners are securely fastened to the instrument rack. Continuously, setting for module.
