Chapter 2
The absolute vibration monitor module is a dedicated vibration monitoring module that is capable of simultaneously monitoring both the relative shaft vibration and absolute shaft vibration, or both the relative shaft vibration and seismic vibration, of the rotating machinery. The module is capable of receiving input from a maximum of two systems (relative vibration: two channels, seismic vibration: two channels). The recorder output or contact output corresponding to the input is externally output via the rear connector of the instrument rack.
2.1
Functional Description
This section provides the basic description of the measurement function, display function, alarm function, output function and control function provided by the module.
2.1.1
Measurement Function
Suppression Function
This suppression is the function that cancels the floatation of the zero point by piping vibration or noise when the machine is not running. The suppression can be set at 0.0 to 5.0% of the monitor range. For details about the suppression setting, see "4.6.1 Basic Settings (Absolute Vibration Monitor) P.28".
11
2.1.3
Alarm Function
For details about the alarm setting, see "4.6.3 Alarm Setting P.36".
z Gap Alarm
The ALERT Alarm is output when the input signal level falls outside the range set for the gap alarm. (The gap alarm is ORed with ALERT Alarm and output to ALERT Alarm.) This function is available only for the displacement vibration input channel.
z DANGER Alarm
DANGER Alarm is output when the measurement value exceeds the DANGER setting value.
z ALERT Alarm
ALRET Alarm is output when the measurement value exceeds the ALERT setting value.
z First-out Indication
It is possible to specify the channel on which alarms are output the earliest from those channels that the first-out indication function is active. For details about the first-out indication function, see "4.6.1 Basic Settings (Absolute Vibration Monitor) P.28".
z Sequence
To prevent alarm output due to excessive vibration generated temporarily while starting up the machine, this function expands the DANGER Alarm and ALERT Alarm settings by shorting between SEQ1 and SEQ 2 terminals on the instrument rack. (Amplitude: magnification, by 1 to 10 times, phase: Enable /disable cutoff) For details about the sequence setting, see "4.6.3 Alarm Setting P.36".
Warning
To activate the contact for external operation, you need to short between terminals for more than 1 second.
12
You can set the delay time (0.0 to 99.0 seconds) for each channel to prevent DANGER Alarm or ALERT Alarm from being output by mistake due to noise or other reasons. For details about the alarm delay time setting, see "4.6 Absolute Vibration Channel P.28".
z Alarm Logic
Alarms for several channels can be output via AND or OR. For details about the logic setting, see "4.7 Relay Settings P.38".
Warning The use of "normally energized" (non-energized alarm) is recommended for the alarm relay mode.
The use of "normally de-energized" (energized alarm) may prevent the relay from being energized when internal power supply is in an abnormal state.
Caution
The alarm reset operation does not work while the alarm is output continuously.
2.1.4
Output Function
z Monitor Output
The buffered output of the input signal is output from the monitor/pulse output connector on the front panel and the monitor output connector on the VM-76*B instrument rack. The monitor output signals are not isolated from the input. The signal to be assigned to monitor output connectors 2 and 4 can be selected from velocity vibration (input signal obtained via buffer amplifier), seismic vibration and absolute shaft vibration. For details about the monitor output setting, see "4.6 Absolute Vibration Channel P.28".
13
The analog signals (voltage signals or current signals) proportional to the vibration value are output from the recorder output connector on the VM-76*B instrument rack. For details about the recorder output setting, see "4.6 Absolute Vibration Channel P.28".
2.1.5
Control Function
z Danger Bypass
This function shuts off DANGER Alarm on channels. While the alarm is shut off, both the DANGER bypass indicator on Local Communication & Phase Marker Module and the DANGER bypass indicator on the MCL View window light up. This function can be operated from MCL View.
z Channel Bypass
This function shuts off DANGER Alarm, ALERT Alarm, OK Alarm, indication values and recorder outputs for channels. While the alarm output is shut off, the OK Alarm indicator remains off and the Channel Bypass indicator remains lit on the MCL View window. This function can be operated from MCL View.
Warning
While the bypass is enabled, the machine is not protected.

Suppression Function
This function prevents the zero point of the monitor from floating, which is caused by the piping vibration or noise when the machine is not running. Any value within the monitor range, namely, 0.0% to 5.0% (in 0.1% steps), can be set. With the suppression function for the absolute vibration monitor, any input signals below the specified value are converted to the 0% output signals. Input signals that are above the specified value but below 5.0% are converted to a value lower than the true value and then output. Example) Suppression Setting of 2.0% and 5.0%

Chapter 7
This chapter describes the maintenance and inspection procedures for VM-7.
7.1
This is an explanation of the procedure for exchanging the module for maintenance or service. After exchanging the module, the module should be set or calibrated. This equipment has Channel Bypass function which prevent to output all alarm and recorder output. (Channel Bypass) The function allows you to replace a module without stopping other modules. When the Channel Bypass function is used, there is no output from the contact that is related to the warning even if the measurement value exceeds the warning set value. Be sure to understand the risks of using Channel Bypass alarm setting the module.
Warning
Once a module is uninstalled, the alarm relay contact output terminal is in open mode. If the alarm output of the module is assigned to the relay of other module, uninstall the module using Channel Bypass. When the Channel Bypass function is used, there is no output from the contact that is related to the alarm even if the measurement value exceeds the alarm setting value.
Caution
Before any contact with the unit, be sure to touch the metal objects, etc. so that the static electricity is discharged. Avoid any contact with the component side, board or soldered parts of the instrument rack or the module. Failure to do so may result in damage to or malfunction of the unit. The instrument rack and the module are precision instrument. Avoid any excessive shock or vibration. Ensure that all the fasteners on the instrument rack are tightly fastened and the instrument rack is securely fixed. 1 Store the backup file of the exchanging module. This file is used to install for new module. (See "4.3 Loading/Writing the Setting P.23".) Uninstall the module. (See "3.3 Uninstalling the Module P.20".) Install a new module. (See "3.2 Installing the Module P.19".) Check that all the fasteners are securely fastened to the instrument rack. Continuously, setting for module.

When the module is exchanged, it should be set and/or calibrate about alarm set value, zero-shift, and so on. Load the backup file to new module. (See "4.3 Loading/Writing the Setting P.23".) Make necessary adjustments. (See Chapter 4 Module Setting P.21. Disable Channel Bypass function. Now, exchanging of the module is complete.
7.2
It is recommended to replace the unit after ten years of use at an ambient temperature (approx. 25C) even if there are no apparent defects. The use of the unit under a higher temperature conditions shortens the service life of the unit. Point PRODUCT SERVICE LIFE
The service life of the unit also becomes shortened depending on the surrounding conditions of the unit. Ten years as a rough guide, it is preferable to replace the unit at an earlier stage so that the stability of the unit can be ensured.
