Pathway programmes and the UK education system

A degree from a UK university is a prestigious qualication with worldwide recognition. Kaplan International Colleges offer pathway preparation programmes to international students who wish to study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at a UK university. These provide fantastic well-rounded preparation for a wide range of degree courses at Bachelors and Masters level.

The UK education system In the UK education system, students study 13 years of education (12 years in Scotland) before progressing to an undergraduate degree at university. Students who have successfully completed grade 11 or 12 or equivalent in their home country need to complete a Foundation Certicate to bridge the gap between their secondary education and the rst year of university study (second year in Scotland). Academic support We recognise that international students might need some extra support to help them get the most from their studies. We prepare students for studying in the UK education system by teaching a number of academic skills including how to take notes effectively, work in groups successfully, referencing and avoiding plagiarism, research skills, essay writing and more. Learning Support Tutors We assign every student a Learning Support Tutor or Academic Advisor with whom you will meet regularly. They will monitor your progress and give you extra help where you need it to make sure that nothing gets in the way of your progression to university. Each of our Colleges also has a student support team to help with non-academic queries.

Small class sizes We use predominantly small teaching groups instead of large lecture theatres. This means you receive an excellent level of attention from teaching staff. You will quickly develop a comfortable relationship with your tutors and classmates. Teaching time To complete our programmes, you will need to make a serious academic commitment. As well as plenty of contact time with your tutors in class, you are also expected to undertake at least eight hours of self-study each week for every module you take. English language support We offer a broad range of English language teaching, so you can develop your English skills while you study. For students who need extra help with their English prior to starting their academic programme, all of our Colleges run English courses to suit a wide range of language levels.

Monitoring progress We monitor our students progress closely and provide feedback so that you know what areas you need to improve on and where your strengths lie. This will ensure you have the best possible chances of success in your studies. University Placement Service From the moment you arrive at one of our International Colleges, our primary aim will be to help you to progress to your chosen partner university. If however you do not reach the required level, our expert University Placement Service will assist you in securing a place at another leading academic institution.
