In Brief
Tax rule warning issued to regions gangmasters
GANGMASTERS have been warned they face jail if they do not comply with tax rules. Lincolnshire is one of the biggest counties for fraudulent use of workers in the agriculture and construction industries. But some seasonal workers in the tourist industry have ended up working illegally for gangmasters. Officials at HM Revenue And Customs (HMRC) have announced they are doubling the number of officers cracking down on tax avoidance by gangmasters. The extra 100 officers will offer free so-called health checks to businesses to help them use legitimate labour providers and tackle fraud within the industry . Those found guilty of tax evasion could face jail. Mike Eland, HMRC director general of enforcement and compliance, said: Building on HMRCs successful approach to tackling fraud in the labour provider industry, these teams will make it even harder for fraudsters. Labour providers are traditionally found in agriculture and construction, where they supply workers to other businesses. But HMRC will also continue to focus its efforts on all sectors where there is a demand for a flexible workforce to meet seasonal and market demand. Walking for water aid charity

THE Ropewalk team in Barton-Upon-Humber is going the extra mile to help celebrate WaterAids 30th birthday year. During May, staff members will be either putting their best foot forward or pushing their pedals to raise money for the deserving charity which gives access to safe water and sanitation for some of the worlds poorest nations. Some members of staff have opted to walk 10,000 steps a day for the full month while others are combining their cycle miles to reach a target of 3,000 miles which equates to the length of the River Congo. Liz Bennet, the Ropewalks managing director said: We all take water for granted whether it be for drinking, cooking, washing and cleaning or sanitation. By taking on this challenge we are hoping to play just a small part in ensuring that globally more and more people have access to safe water and sanitation. In the last six months The Ropewalk has raised more than 400 for the charity . We continue to raise money for WaterAid through our book swap in the Coffee Shop and so far have paid for a schools sanitation block and a puppet show which promotes good hygiene, said Liz. But as WaterAids promotional material says, every 30 minutes an estimated 90 children die from diarrhoea caused by dirty water.

Hypnosis hit nail in coffin of habit

My grandma would be proud if she saw how gorgeous my nails look
Selina Maycock
But as reported, in February I went through a session of hypnosis with Susan Lawrence of Wrawby-based Piece Of Minds, as a last resort after my other nail biting prevention methods had failed. After the initial hypnosis session I was dubious as to whether it would really work. But what unfolded in the days and weeks after was remarkable. I couldnt bring myself to bite my nails. No matter how hard I

SINCE I owned a full set of teeth, my nails have taken a hammering to the point where I had almost nibbled them down to my elbow.

Its thumbs up to hypnosis after reporter Selina Maycock goes for her first manicure on her own fully grown nails

Shes a textbook case

In your words
Susan Lawrence, hypnotist of Piece Of Minds Selina had a deep-rooted habit in her subconscious, however she was clearly committed to her goal and receptive to hypnotic suggestion. I am absolutely delighted and proud of Selina and her nails and she is a textbook example of how effective clinical hypnosis can be. Those nails were in desperate need of TLC and now she can go and show them off to the world.

tried to tempt myself, even when the nails had a little whiteness showing. This would usually be removed within minutes. But to no avail, my teeth wouldnt clamp together around them. After my hypnosis session I was given a CD which I was told to listen to should I feel like the hypnosis was lapsing, but I havent once needed to play it. And now for the first time in my life, I can enjoy a french manicure on my nails. Carol, owner of Nailz Of Distinction, in Wrawby Road, Brigg gave my nails a luxury manicure. It consisted of the usual cuticle tidy, file and shape nails, exfoliation, relaxing hand massage and polish. Plus it included the added benefit of a hand and arm massage, a paraffin wax treatment with heated mittens to nourish and hydrate the skin. All of this is completely new to me. At home I have all the nail file gadgets in my beauty box, but I know as much about a cuticle trimmer, as a man would a pumice stone. And not to mention stacks of polish that have either come free with a magazine or bought as gifts that have been barely used if anything just to paint my toenails. So having the manicure was an eye-opening experience, for the end result looks as professional as the pre-painted

false nails but I have the added satisfaction of knowing Im not going to have a nail ping-off right before that all-important night out photograph. No more nail glues, and no more pain in taking them off. Im finally free to participate in all the girly pampering sessions without the fakery and my grandma would be proud if she could see how gorgeous my nails now look. Nail artist Carole said: I see a lot of nail biters who come and they have a Gelish nail treatment it performs like a gel but acts like a polish. For those who have weak nails and would like some added strength, Gelish Structure gel can be applied to give nails that extra strength and that perfect long lasting polish. Nail biters can often sense when they have a coating on their nails and it stops them biting them, they are more aware of what they are doing and think about not biting them. f To see how hypnosis can help you call Susan Lawrence on 07943 728851.
