The Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH) is a component of
CARTAs public transportation system.
DASH trolleys are not utilized as tour vehicles. For your convenience, information concerning Charlestons many privately owned tour companies is available at the Visitor
Reception & Transportation Center.

How to Use This Brochure. The DASH System

map inside this brochure is color-coded by route and corresponds with schedule information. Shuttle stop locations are
also shown.
Watch for color-coded maps and schedules at all DASH bus
stops. Posted schedules indicate which DASH routes service
specific locations. DASH trolleys also display color-coded
destination signs in the windows beside
the passenger doors.

Identifying Your Bus. When the trolley approaches be

sure to check the overhead sign, right above the bus windshield, to insure you are boarding the right trolley.

POINTS OF INTEREST
Meeting/King Shuttle

Shuttle Stops. Shelters, benches and trolley stop signs

are located throughout the city. It is very important that you
wait at the trolley stop. For your safety, DASH drivers are
instructed to serve only posted trolley stops. NO
SPECIAL STOPS CAN BE MADE. Stops can be identified by a
green CARTA Sign with a CARTA route number.

With any of the CARTA Transit Passes you can ride on all three
DASH routes as well as all other Fixed Routes for one low
price.
The All Day Transit Pass is now available on board both
CARTA Trolleys and Metro Buses (This pass expires at
midnight on the first day of use). All other CARTA Transit
Passes are available inside the Visitor Reception and
Transportation Center and many area Piggly Wiggly
grocery stores. For more information please call

Animals. Police dogs, guide, signal or service dogs are

the ONLY pets permitted on DASH.

Comments and Complaints.

Fares. Effective October 17, 2010 the fare is $1.75 in exact

change. Drivers do not carry change. The CARTA One-Day
Pass is $6.00. The Three-Day Pass is $12.00 and 31-Day Pass is
$50.00. By-the-ride Passes are as follows; 10-Ride Pass-$14.00,
40-Ride Pass-$49.00.

Discount Fares. Children aged 6 and under ride free

when accompanied by an adult paying passenger. School
groups should call ahead for fare information.
Effective October 17, 2010, Senior citizens (55+) pay only
$.85 cents per trip Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to
3:30 pm, after 6:00 pm, and all day Saturday and Sunday.
Drivers may request proof of age. Medicare cards or I.D.
with Date of Birth will serve as identification for the $.85 cent
discount fare. DASH does not operate on the following holidays: New Years Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day,
Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. A Disabled fare is
$.50 cents per trip all day, every day.
