SECTION 15971 ELECTRICAL MOTOR PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General special Conditions and Division-1 Specification Sections, apply to work of this Section. B. The requirements specified in this section apply to all related sections in this Division. The requirements of all related sections, elsewhere in this division also apply to this section unless specified to the contrary. C. The requirements of this Section apply to work specified elsewhere in the Division 16 specification. 1.2 DEFINITIONS A. 1. Definitions pertaining to electric motors and motor controls are as follows: "Motor Power Any circuit, which operates Circuits"nominally at 200 volts or more, and which carries electrical input energy to a motor. "Motor controlAny circuit, (other than a circuit" (used in motor power circuit) which conjunction with operates nominally at 200 a motor for which volts or more, and which a magnetic starter carries current intended is supplied) for directing or indicating the performance of a motor starter. 3. "Motor controlAny circuit containing an circuit" extension of power circuit in conjunction wires other than those with a motor constituting the direct for which a connection between sources manual starter of supply, starter and motor. "Motor controlAny device which performs a Actuating" device switching function in a motor control circuit (pushbuttons, automatic contacting devices, etc.)

device ceived from a motor control circuit (pilot lights, solenoids, etc.) 6. "Process control An overall control system of System "a low voltage (24 volts) or pneumatic type available as a fully installed "package" from specialty manufacturers. QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Acceptable Manufacturers: Firms regularly engaged in the manufacture of electric motors and motor controls of the types and sizes or ratings, whose products have been in satisfactory use in similar service for not less than 5 years, as approved by the Architect. Standards Compliance: Comply with requirements of applicable local codes, DIN/VDE, IEC, EN, NEC, NEMA, ANSI, and IEEE Standards, pertaining to switchgear. Provide electric motors and motor controls products and components which conform to one or more of the foregoing codes and standards.

INTERPRETATION A. The process and automatic control systems called for elsewhere, on drawings or in these specifications as part of the mechanical work, shall be interpreted as being totally divorced from the motor controls hereinafter described. These systems, however, do include devices of the motor control actuating, deactuating and actuated types which are connected into some motor control circuits as accounted for in the drawing schedule entitled "Motor and Motor Control Panels" and as specified.

a. The supplying of electrical wiring diagrams of manufactured equipment, including terminal to terminal point, integrated electrical wiring diagrams, for power, operating, safety and interlocking/interlocked controls shall be included as part of the mechanical work. This requirement shall be met regardless of any assignment between trades of the responsibility for the purchase, delivery, setting in place connecting up of electrical motors, starters, controls and other electrical devices. b. The drawings describing the electrical and/or the mechanical work may include explanatory wiring diagrams indicating the function intended for the motor controls circuits of certain specific motors. The "field instructions" wiring diagrams required as part of the mechanical work shall conform to these intended functions. B. Product Data: Manufacturer's printed data, catalog cuts and illustrations.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS Refer to attached list of manufacturer 2.2 DESCRIPTION OF MOTORS A. B. Motors shall have the exact continuous nameplate capacities and voltage and phase characteristics as shown on the drawing and schedule. Motors are sized in the list of electric motors and motor controls, for specified types of driven equipment. It shall be understood that acceptance of equipment utilizing motors whose capacities and characteristics differ from those shown in the list is contingent upon the inclusion in the mechanical work, at no additional cost to the Owner, of all necessary adjustments to the electrical work. Adjustments to the electrical work shall meet with the Architect's approval. Motors may be for any rated maximum temperature rise. Submit certification that all motors regardless of type (open, enclosed or encapsulated) have a service factor of at least 1.15 for continuous operation, within rated temperature rise limits above a 40oC ambient, at nameplate voltage. (Nameplate voltage is to be taken as the lower of the two values where dual voltage ratings within 50 volts of each other are involved). Squirrel cage motors shall be "sealed for life bearing," quiet operating, N.E.M.A. design "B" or International Standards, high efficient type unless otherwise noted.

C.

D. E.

Unless otherwise noted, all motors shall be of the open drip-proof type. F. Single phase squirrel cage motors shall be of the capacitor start induction run, split phase or shaded pole type, as required for proper operation of the driven equipment.

Unless otherwise noted, motors intended to drive fans shall be arranged for belt connection. Motors intended to drive pumps shall be arranged for direct connection. Motors arranged for belt connection shall have extended shaft ends and adjustable bases with set screws for maintaining proper belt tension. All motors shall have nameplate markings as required by the Egyptian Electric Code. Terminal box sizes and wiring terminals of motors shall be suitable for the application of both copper and aluminum wires. Motors intended for use with reduced voltage (inrush current limiting) starters, 11 KW/20 HP and larger, shall be provided with over-size terminal boxes and suitable for operation with closed transition star-delta type starter. Ex motors shall be provided for any classified area whether indicated on the drawings or not.
