Gua del estudiante Class 1 Past simple *We use past simple to talk about an action that started and finished at a specific time in the past. *We put ed at the end of the verb. Examples: I played football yesterday. She visited his grandmother last summer. They worked last vacations. * When a verb ends in -y- and before the -y- there is a vowel, we add ed. Example: I played video games last night. But, when before the -y- there is a consonant we use ied. Example: She studied English.

Time expressions * To be specific in the past we use different time expressions: Yesterday: its the previous day. Example: I studied math yesterday. Last: day, week, month or year. Example: I painted my house last year. Ago: used for X days, weeks, months, and years before. Ago follows the number of days, weeks, etc. Example: I watched a movie two days ago. In: for specific years or moths. Example: I graduated in 2010.

Irregular verbs * Some verbs, in past simple, are irregular (no ed at the end) so that we have to learn them by heart (memorize). Examples: Go -> Went Run -> Ran Have -> Had Do -> Did Be -> Was / Were

Question words * We use Question words for specific information. 1. who 2. where 3. when 4. why 5. which 6. what 7. how many 8. how long 9. how old a person a place a time a reason (because) a thing (from a small number of possible answers) a thing (from many possible answers) a number a period of time (for two years) age

* Questions words go at the beginning of a question and we answer them with specific information. Example: Where did you go yesterday? I went to the cinema. Who did you go with? I went with my sister. What film did you watch? We watched The kings speech.
