Carlos, what is really a travesty, is that THESE CONGRESSMEN KNOW whats going on, but since most of them never spent a day in military uniform, they just dont give a crap.. and I have told them that to their face. I am not at all diplomatic when it comes to fighting for our military and for our veterans. Some of the above addressed congressmen, are on the committees which deal with this issue, so it is about time that they start being concerned with our troops and veterans pay and healthcare. Some of us Veterans from The Rio Grande Valley have traveled at our own expense, to demand the top-quality which our South Texas Veterans deserve, close to home and we will not give up, until we succeed. If Veterans in other areas of our country get remodeled or new hospitals, why should our mostly-Mexican-American Veterans, have to continue waiting, and waiting and waiting??? Whenever there is a war, our government has no trouble finding us to send us to war, in disproportionate numbers, with a disproportionate number paying with their lives, or with life-altering injuries. Why do our officials in VA and congress not seem to know that our South Texas Veterans south of IH-35 and IH-10 still exist?????? During the time I was in Vietnam, the USAF screwed up and did not send my wife the family part of our military pay and even for a few months after I returned to Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona. With five children to feed, she had to take in sewing (which she knew nothing about) and ironing at night, after the kids were asleep. She did not want to tell me, because I was in the combat zone. When I came back, still with no pay, we finally decided to ask for food stamps, but when I got to the cash register, I was so embarrassed that it brought me to tears, so I went and placed all the food back on the shelves and walked out of the store. NO YOUNG SOLDIER, AIRMAN, MARINE OR SAILOR should ever have to go through that. That experience, coupled with the shitty way we were treated

when we landed in California and had to hitchhike home to Tucson, still brings tears to my eyes, when my mind goes back to that time. It would be a great big help, if more people including non-military citizens, spoke out on this subject, at town-hall meetings with legislators. My congressman, Henry Cuellar no longer invites me to District town-hall meetings.. just as Lamar Smith, when my home was in his district, never invited me. I wonder what I am doing wrong. Or right? GOOD MORNING PLACIDO. I AM APPALED AT THIS INFORMATION WHICH SHOULD BE SENT TO THE MEMBERS OF THE ARMED SERVICES COMITTEE, THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE SECRETARY, VETERANS ADMNISTRATION SECRETARY. I BET THESE GUYS ARE NOT ON FOOD STAMPS. THIS SHAMEFUL THE WAY OUR COUNTRY IS TREATING OUR MEN/WOMEN IN UNIFORM. Food stamp cuts hit about 5,000 troops.

About 5,000 troops are among those affected by cuts to the federal food stamp program, according to the Pentagon?
Isnt it a National shame that the military pay of any member of our Armed Forces and his/her family is so low that they should have to depend on Food Stamps in order to survive? Can you imagine what this does to the dignity of our Warriors? What does this do for the image of the military uniform, to be in front of several civilians at the cashier of the local supermarket and have to pay for groceries with FOOD STAMPS??? This should not be happening in the richest, most civilized nation of the world. Below-Poverty Level pay for our troops who are expected

to operate the most expensive Hi-Tech equipment and expected to lay their lives on the line in combat! WOW!! The pay increases authorized for our Armed Forces and our Veterans, UNLIKE THE AUTOMATIC HEFTY PAY RAISES FOR CONGRESSMEN, has been lagging badly, during several past administrations. Every time the budget needs to be balanced, it has ALWAYS been our military, our veterans and Social Security recipients, who are left holding the smelly end of the stick.

Under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, VA (along with all other government agencies) is required to make all electronic information accessible to customers and employees with disabilities. While Section 508 guidelines havent changed since 2001, new standards are anticipated this December. When they are released, the Section 508 Program Office anticipates having about six months to adapt programs, update checklists, and ensure that VAs tools are ready for the new rules. As with every VA office, the Section 508 Program Offices number one priority is the Veteran, but it also works hard to level the playing field for VAs 28,000 disabled employees. According to Section 508 Program Office Director Pat Sheehan, IT access issues shouldnt hold anyone at VA back from completing their responsibilities and moving ahead in the organization. Get more information here, including tips for expediting Section 508 certification.
