Cause and Effect Written by Dominic Jones

EXT. DAY - A shot of the sky begins to fill the screen; symbolising the vast amount of paths that our life could take in just one day.

CUT TO BLACK - Muffled and tinny music can be heard fading in. CUT - An unknown person steps into the frame. We pan up, starting from the feet and up to their head; where they put their headphones in. The tinny music increases in volume as we pan nearer to the persons head. As soon as they put their earphones in we are cut off from the sound and can now just hear air. With the odd bird tweet. We now see this unidentified person (PERSON A) begin their walk to their usual, day-to-day destination. As PERSON A walks past a bench we notice that PERSON Bs phone is ringing in his/her hand however he/she is fast asleep on the bench. We now see a clear conflict from PERSON A over whether to wake up the person or just keep walking. (This is not overly dramatic and should not be presented as a life changing decision at all). PERSON A decides to wake PERSON B. PERSON A: Excuse me, your phones ringing PERSON B: (sleepily) What? PERSON A: Sorry. Your phone, its ringing I just thought I should wake you; could be something important PERSON B: Oh, yeah, thanks PERSON A: (turning to walk away) No problem PERSON B: (answering the phone but quickly to Person A) Hey your lace is undone (now on the phone) Hello? PERSON A mouthes a thanks you and sits next to Person B to tie his/her lace. PERSON B: (on the phone) Ok PERSON PERSON B: Right, now Im going it should be there in about calm down its fine do you have your inhaler? C: (crying/panicked) No to call an ambulance youre going to be fine ok a minute. I will meet you at the hospital ok? PERSON C: Okay PERSON B: Youre going to be fine. Ill see you in a bit.

PERSON B hangs up the phone and starts off, turning to Person A. PERSON B: Listen, thanks so much if I had missed that call I don't know what would've happened she's only four andwell Id better go really shouldn't I! Thanks again? PERSON A realises he/she is asking for their name and opens their mouth to say it. CUT. EXTREME LS - The two shaking hands with PERSON B then rushing off and PERSON A putting the headphones back in and walking off in the same direction. We carry on with PERSON As journey until we reach the edge of a road where, due to being so engrossed in his/her music they are knocked down by an oncoming ambulance. We see PERSON A lying on the floor dead. CUT TO BLACK - Muffled and tinny music can be heard fading in. CUT - An unknown person steps into the frame. We now see a clear conflict from PERSON A over whether to wake up the person or just keep walking. (This is not overly dramatic and should not be presented as a life changing decision at all). PERSON A decides not to wake Person B. We cut to an extreme long shot of the two in their different positions with PERSON A walking off in the same direction he/she was originally walking in. We carry on with PERSON As journey as he/she crosses the deserted road safely and then off into the distance. The distant sound of a phone ringtone can be heard. We cut back to PERSON B sleeping in the park, waking up with a start just as the phone stops ringing. PERSON B clocks that he/she has a missed call and rings the number back only to be met with the dial tone which rings out as we pan or cut to a shot of the sky which slowly fades from view.
